What you're experiencing is clinically described as "Self Deception, and Illusion."

The "Revolution" wont be televised! And here's why:

We, progressives, are not ready or willing to engage in the kind of violence it will take to make it happen.

The real fascism is the regulatory state, which progressives love. You want to talk about guns? The state has a legal monopoly on the use of force. Buttressing every law there is ultimately a gun. It may take a long, long time for you to see that gun if you violate a law, but you WILL see it.

I find it amusing that progressives love regulations and hate huge corporations. Because compliance with regulations is often expensive, it is far easier for huge corporations to comply with them. Regulations often make it difficult or impossible for smaller companies (or individuals) to compete, thus clearing the way for more ever larger corporations.

I am a libertarian and have many friends who are progressives. They are 100% good people who mean well, but unfortunately their ideology really WILL produce fascism (of the non-racist variety, of course) because of its love of the all-powerful State.

This past winter, when the health care bill passed, the Thugs and Tea Gaggers acted out on the steps to the Capitol in Washington. Read "It Can't Happen Here" written by Sinclair Lewis in 1934. It is happening here, NOW!

Two forces are in play here.

1. Corporate Power. Representing the desire for unbridled capital accumulation. Greed. Dominance Over Labor and Environment.

2. Government. Representing Balance. Opposition to dominance of Corporations over people and the natural world.

Successful or marginal gains in the opposition to Corporate Power by Obama and Congress (but not the Supreme Court) has created a huge retaliation by Corporate Power through capital infusion and co-option of workers by cultural diversion. The Tea Party is a tool of Corporate Power to reduce the role of Government so that it may take the advantage.

This dance of power must only accelerate. As Corporate Power rises, so too must the role of Government.

And yes, a Government of bad intention is a scary thing, but there is no preponderance of evidence that we are nearly as close to that reality as we are of a Government hijacked by the Corporate Power.

Mike, this is all very well, but what are you going to do after the election, when all this crap comes true?

That's what we need to be thinking about.

This country was never intended to a true democracy where the people had a say in the way things were meant to be run. The framers of the constitution feared a tyranny of the people, thus did they set up what James Madison called a "necessary fence" against the majority will. Roger Sherman said "The people should have as little to do as may be about the government." Elbridge Gerry said that "The evils we experience flow from an excess of democracy," Do your own research, learn how "the primary responsibility of government is 'to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority'" according to James Madison.

The people are prevented from exercising their will in America by design. The history of America is a history of how that will has been prevented from being fulfilled. We are now seeing its denouement.

It's a lot easier to get the people to blame themselves for their government's problems when they believe they have had any say in it. We haven't.

Just because we have legitimate reasons to fear Republican rule does not mean there are not other reasons for supporting Democrats.

It really makes me sad that you feel this, and worse, that you're thinking in this way. Progressives and Democrats are *completely* in agreement with your ideas of libertarian freedom from restrictions upon small business people. (On that score, then, you are actually quite off base.) The so-called "Big Goverment" that Progressives DO NOT want, and is exactly what you want, is the Big Corporations get all the welfare, none of the regulation applied, and still get away with the farm.
