A Boot to the Head ... From Michael Moore

A Boot to the Head ... From Michael Moore
(Photo: Natalia Bartkowiak / Flickr)

There she was, thrown to the pavement by a Republican in a checkered shirt. Another Republican thrusts his foot in between her legs and presses down with all his weight to pin her to the curb. Then a Republican leader comes over and viciously stomps on her head with his foot. You hear her glasses crunch under the pressure. Holding her head down with his foot, he applies more force so she can't move. Her skull and brain are now suffering a concussion.

The young woman's name is Lauren Valle, but she is really all of us. For come this Tuesday, the right wing -- and the wealthy who back them -- plan to take their collective boot and bring it down hard on not just the head of Barack Obama but on the heads of everyone they simply don't like.

Teachers union? The boot!

Muslim-looking people? The boot!

Thinking of retiring soon? The boot!

Living in a house you can no longer afford? The boot!

Doing a bit better with your minimum wage? The boot!

Stem cell research, the bullet train, reversing global warming? Ha! The boot for all of you!

What? You like your kids being covered by your health plan 'til they're 26? The boot for them and the boot for you!

In love with someone of your own gender? A double boot up the ass for every single one of you sick SOBs!

Hoping there's a few jobs left here in the U.S. when you graduate? How 'bout just a nice boot to your head instead?

And most importantly, the last boot is saved for the black man who probably wasn't born here, definitely isn't a Christian and possibly might be the Antichrist sent here to oversee the destruction of our very way of life. A boot to your head, Obama-devil!

Yes, one big boot is poised to stomp out whatever hopey-changey thing we might have had two years ago and secure this country in the hands of the oligarchs and the culture police.

And if they win on Tuesday, they plan to show no mercy. They will not speak of bipartisanship or olive branches or tolerate any filibuster threats. They will come in and do the job with a mandate they'll perceive the electorate will have given them. They will not fart around for two years like the Democrats did. They will not "search for compromise" or "find middle ground." They will not meet you halfway on the playing field. They know that touchdowns aren't scored at the 50-yard line. Unlike our guys, they're not stupid or spineless.

Make no mistake about it, my friends. A perfect storm has gathered of racists, homophobes, corporatists and born agains and they are on fire. Two years of a black man who secretly holds socialist beliefs being the boss of them is more than they can stomach. They've been sick to death since the night of 11/04/08 and they are ready to purge. They won't need a rope and tree this time to effect the change they seek (why bother when a nice shoe on another's skull will do just fine, thank you).

They simply need to get their base to the polls (done), convince enough people Obama is responsible for the fact they don't have a job or a secure home (done), and then hope enough of us Obama-voters are so frustrated, disappointed and downright mad at the Dems (done) that we'll either stay home Tuesday or, if we vote, we won't be carpooling with 10 others to the polls.

Done? Or not?

These Republicans mean business. Their boots are all shined and ready. But they've got one huge problem:

The majority of Americans don't agree with them.

The majority want the troops home. The majority want true universal health coverage. The majority want the thievery on Wall Street to be stopped. The majority believe that global warming is happening, that social security shouldn't be privatized and that unions are a good thing.

Too bad the majority party has done precious little to bring about the change for which the majority voted. Yes, change takes time. But try telling that to someone who hasn't worked in two years. Or who hears the knock of the foreclosure sheriff at the door. The booted-up minority knows how to make hay in a situation like this. All they need is us, the disappointed, dismayed, disgusted us.

What say you? Stay home and punish the weak-kneed, sell-out Democrats? Or spend every free moment you have between now and Tuesday trying to protect what little progress has been made so we can live to fight another day (even if it is with "allies" like a Democratic Party that will more than likely still not get the message of what they need to do -- and has, in fact, spent much of the past two years giving progressives the boot)? Perhaps our job, post-election, is to provide a gentle but swift boot in the bee-hind of the party whose mascot is an ass.

Right now, we've got 112 hours. Seems like enough.

Michael Moore gets it. Get

Michael Moore gets it. Get out there, folks. This is about stopping the spread of fascism in America.

Considering America has not

Considering America has not ceased in its unending effort to kill brown people around the world and the surveillance state has grown under Obama's watch, it's kind of silly to say progress has been made.

There's really no hope for America. Better to stay home and let it all fall apart. When America is gone, then progress can be made.

"There's really no hope for

"There's really no hope for America. Better to stay home and let it all fall apart. When America is gone, then progress can be made."

Indeed. Rebirth requires death. Better to let the system fail and die (by letting it finally flower into the overt corporate fascism it is), from which a rebirth can happen. Otherwise it's only delaying the inevitable.

Yes, there will be lots of pain and misery, poverty and death. But safety and security are always an illusion. It's time for some reality to kick america in the nads.

I completely reject this

I completely reject this smug cop-out cynicism. The violent nihilistic fantasies of 23:55 have more in common with the Rand Paul supporter's boot stomping than with genuine progress. I hope most readers, progressives, and Democrats reject it as well. Nothing about the country's future is "inevitable." It all depends on what we do or don't do.

Moore DEM caving, like

Moore DEM caving, like Maher, Obey, Sanders and Kucinich, et al; at the Last MINUTE to More of the OBAMANIBLE!

@Anon 23:55 I hope you're

@Anon 23:55 I hope you're not serious. Maybe its you who should stay home. In the mental hospital where obviously you're not taking your meds like you should.

These "people"? are the

These "people"? are the reincarnation/American version of Hitler's "Brown Shirts".
Soon after this "election" they will be either in, or, in control of, your new federal" concentration
camps."

PS, @ anon 00:40:
What you're experiencing is clinically described as "Self Deception, and Illusion."

What's for sure is the

What's for sure is the nation is lost if good people do nothing. Not voting/getting out the vote is, at this stage of the game, pretty close to treasonous. It won't "show the Democrats" at all, but will help the tea-baggers continue their push to create an American version of the NSDAP -- the Nazi Party.

The "Revolution" wont be

The "Revolution" wont be televised! And here's why:

We, progressives, are not ready or willing to engage in the kind of violence it will take to make it happen.

The fascists are far more prepared and willing. They got the guns, the ammo and the target practice!

Our best hope is to get out there and make the change we want to see. We need to learn from progressive in Europe. You might call it entitlement culture, but they are out there on the streets showing that they are not going to take it lying down!

Voting for a democrat or

Voting for a democrat or republican only validates a political system that is rotten to the core. The only way I can express my displeasure is to vote "write in" in a few races & the rest will be no vote cast.

00:22, it is inevitable.

00:22, it is inevitable. There is no changing this country through elections anymore, the elections of 2006 and 2008 proved that. Let's face it, the world would be better off if America ceased to exist. Heck, Americans would be better off. After all, the reason this country was founded in the first place was because white settlers wanted free rein over native land. America is built on theft and murder, the delusional thinking thinking that liberty is somehow tied to our constitution or the existence of this country leads to more murder world wide.

Michael Moore is amazing !

Michael Moore is amazing ! Right on point ! The crunching of glasses comment reminded me so much of the bullies that would do that to my glasses on a near month basis when I was young. Powerful imagery. Michael Moore is a true hero of our time. I just wish that more mainstream media would cove his commentary. It is not only prescient, it is true and honest. I pray that americans everywhere will understand exactly what a vote for republicans mean.

I'll be canvassing for the

I'll be canvassing for the Dems in a tight Senate race all day Saturday and Sunday, and helping people get to the polls all day Tuesday.

Hope y'all will do something similar.

When it comes to these tight Senate races, remember that the winner is in for 6 yrs. It's worth doing all you can now so you won't wish for all that time you did more.

I don't know... I am a wild

I don't know... I am a wild eyed liberal who is just as armed as the teatoads. I would suggest that a fascista pounding on my door would have chest pain.

Let's not stand by, defeated

Let's not stand by, defeated before we begin by our own lack of imagination and principle, as empty suit Obama did in the health care debate. He's a lost cause on every major issue, but we can still support progressives.

I don't get it. The

I don't get it. The Republican are Nazis because one person gets beat up by a rogue follower of a candidate, but the Democrats aren't, even after the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention riots, which were carried out UNDER ORDERS of the Democratic powers-that-be.

YouTube search: Chicago Democratic Convention 1968 Riots

What a bunch of breathless

What a bunch of breathless drivel. As usual, Moore is right about his social criticisms of the Republicans and utterly wrong economically.

The real fascism is the regulatory state, which progressives love. You want to talk about guns? The state has a legal monopoly on the use of force. Buttressing every law there is ultimately a gun. It may take a long, long time for you to see that gun if you violate a law, but you WILL see it.

I find it amusing that progressives love regulations and hate huge corporations. Because compliance with regulations is often expensive, it is far easier for huge corporations to comply with them. Regulations often make it difficult or impossible for smaller companies (or individuals) to compete, thus clearing the way for more ever larger corporations.

I am a libertarian and have many friends who are progressives. They are 100% good people who mean well, but unfortunately their ideology really WILL produce fascism (of the non-racist variety, of course) because of its love of the all-powerful State.

Von freemason: 1968: a long

Von freemason: 1968: a long time ago. Remember the previous summer (2009) when Tea Gaggers shouted down anyone and Congressmen who talked about health care reform at town hall meetings?
I saw Conway on the CSAN back in August at some
state fair in Kentucky getting shouted down by Tea Gagger Rand supporters. Conway could hardly be heard. I got in an argument with a Rethug back in August and got punched in the side of the face! Rethugs are exactly that: THUGS!

This past winter, when the

This past winter, when the health care bill passed, the Thugs and Tea Gaggers acted out on the steps to the Capitol in Washington. Read "It Can't Happen Here" written by Sinclair Lewis in 1934. It is happening here, NOW!

Freemason, you don't get

Freemason, you don't get much. For instance, it's not 1968. For another, right-wing fascism and Republican thuggery have been on the rise for a long while in this country. Ever hear of Watergate? the "Brooks Brothers riot" of Republican activists in FL in 2000 to help stop the vote recount in Miami? anti-choice assassins? "Second Amendment remedies"? two years of racist propaganda, incl. the targeting of Shirley Sherrod? Glenn Beck inspiring a psychotic murderer to go after the Tides Foundation? and on and on--The Rand Paul incident was hardly isolated.

Two forces are in play

Two forces are in play here.

1. Corporate Power. Representing the desire for unbridled capital accumulation. Greed. Dominance Over Labor and Environment.

2. Government. Representing Balance. Opposition to dominance of Corporations over people and the natural world.

Successful or marginal gains in the opposition to Corporate Power by Obama and Congress (but not the Supreme Court) has created a huge retaliation by Corporate Power through capital infusion and co-option of workers by cultural diversion. The Tea Party is a tool of Corporate Power to reduce the role of Government so that it may take the advantage.

This dance of power must only accelerate. As Corporate Power rises, so too must the role of Government.

And yes, a Government of bad intention is a scary thing, but there is no preponderance of evidence that we are nearly as close to that reality as we are of a Government hijacked by the Corporate Power.

The BP oil spill catastrophe

The BP oil spill catastrophe shows us exactly what big corporations will do. Halliburton knew the cement used to secure the well casing was unstable but went ahead anyway. And who suffers? The "little guy" making a living on the coast (not to mention all the non-human animals).

Unchecked, corporations will destroy the environment and trample all over the rest of us. That's why government is necessary to maintain balance and to promote what our Constitution calls "the general welfare."

We want the benefits of a free market without the excesses of the Robber Barons.

Mike, this is all very well,

Mike, this is all very well, but what are you going to do after the election, when all this crap comes true?

That's what we need to be thinking about.

We on the left spend too much time trying to elect democrats and not enough organizing to fight back against the nazi whoremongers.

"We on the left spend too

"We on the left spend too much time trying to elect democrats and not enough organizing to fight back against the nazi whoremongers."

Beautifully said!

This is a comment over at

This is a comment over at commondreams that I think says it all:

kogwonton October 28th, 2010 10:53 pm

The day Kucinich capitulated was the day I saw nihilism take over one of the last of the truly decent men in the Democratic party.

I'm ready to watch it all burn to the ground. The Democrats brought it on all of us, whether through cowardice or corruption makes no practical difference. It's time for this corruption to stop. People all over the world are dying because of it, and if it hastens resolution to let "fight them here so others don't have to fight them over there" it is only fair. Ten years gone and more than a million dead for lies - and no indication of there ever being any accountability.

(Part I)

(Part II) Even if the

(Part II)

Even if the Democrats couldn't get anything done amidst this blitzkrieg of corporate gangster style politics (even with majorities in both houses), they could have stepped up to their bully pulpits and said why, publicly. They could have called lies for what they were with vigor, pointed fingers, named names, etc. Instead they called me 'retarded', arrested those that tried to represent my interests, and told me to shut the fuck up and sit down.

They're going to have to come up with a new game, because if I get my wish (and you can be sure this isn't my first preference) - if I'm forced to settle for the 'lesser of two evils' - I'll content myself (for now) with watching the lesser evil perish. Even if the bigger foe remains standing, I'll call it progress. The game of 'Duopoly'(TM) is deftly wielded, and keeps the parameters of what passes for discourse so narrowly constricted that it represents, by far, the biggest pimple on the ass of progress of all. The right has shown no inclination toward discourse and consensus. That means they've been doing war, by other means. The bullshit must end. If it is a fight, then so be it. The 'right' hasn't been playing by any rules that I can see. So if it's a fight, let's get the lesser evil out of the way before it is completely absorbed by the enemy. At the very least let us dispense with the lies, and the bullshit.

> The day Kucinich

> The day Kucinich capitulated

You mean the day he didn't side with the GOP obstructionists? The day he voted to extend healthcare coverage to 30 million people and to end discrimination against patients with "preexisting conditions"?

Sure, we'd have liked more. But some progress is better than none.

That rant starts off on the wrong foot and only gets worse as it goes. Capitulating to the corporate fascists isn't the answer.

Well, duh.

Forget the lost decency of

Forget the lost decency of Kucinich.

Forget the (mostly imaginary) moral grandeur of America's past.

This crap is happening NOW!!

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT????

Oh, yeah, suppress the

Oh, yeah, suppress the vote.

Just let Nixon, Reagan, Bush, Gingrich take over.

That's worked really well in the past . . .

Mike is right and Paul is a

Mike is right and Paul is a dangerous idiot and opportunist. But for all the damage the teabaggers might do, none of them is going to hurt us as much as people who want to stay home and wash their hands of the whole affair. Most of us gave up the "I didn't get what I wanted right away so I'm going home" mentality in second grade, but the rest of you are just as hell-bent on seeing our country go down the toilet as the toughest of brown shirts.

If you have to have a childish fit and not vote, or just throw your vote away, YOU are the problem and have abrogated your right to complain, offer advise, or otherwise be involved in the conversation at all!

I agree with the basic point

I agree with the basic point of this op-ed, but it's way too sensationalistic. It doesn't deserve to be labeled journalism by virtue of being included on Truthout.

Anyone who *wants* to see

Anyone who *wants* to see Speaker Boehner, Senator Angle, Senator O'Donnell, Senator Miller, Senator Buck, Senator Toomey, Senator Johnson, et al. is as much our enemy as the Republicans are.

This isn't about "the lesser of two evils." It's about basically decent, sane people or wacko religious neo-fascists.

That guy from Common Dreams

That guy from Common Dreams is probably a Republican.

The true nihilists are those who just want to let the Tea Party take over the country.

But it's not going to happen. The ground game is in gear. The White House will still be ours, the Senate will probably remain so (Pollster currently gives that an 85% chance--higher than the odds that the GOP will take the House), and the tide will turn before 2012.

America does not want to be ruled by right-wing wackos.

> If it is a fight, then so

> If it is a fight, then so be it.

And how do you propose to fight without a political party? You'll be like a guy with a slingshot facing an army of tanks.

"And how do you propose to

You mean like Tiananmen Square?

> You mean like Tiananmen

Glad you got the allusion.

And you do, of course, know how much change has been effected in China.

E.g., Tibet.

MY MY Mr Moore ......How

MY MY Mr Moore ......How MELO-DEMOCRATIC!

Your analogy of The JACK BOOTED THUGS because 1 Tea-Party participate got excited over this womans OBNOXIOUS Behavior...(Remember SHE did something to arouse the crowd & it was'nt nice)The REAL FASCISTS are going to be PERMANENTLY removed Tuesaday Nov 2 & it cannot come soon enough. Obamma is a Closet BOLSHEVIST who's upbringing , community organizing, Associates, MENTORS all have 1 thing in Common & thats a VILE HATRED for AMERICA! Read the Manchurian President & get the REAL inside story of WHO this ILLEGAL IMPOSTER "REALLY" IS!Why does he continue to hide & bury his past records incl the INFAMOUS Birth Certificate......and WHY does the MEDIA Continue to give him a "PASS".

THIS IS the PROBLEM!!! GET IT!!!! Hopefully Boerhner... Issa & the Republicrats will have enough "BALLS" to FORCE these issues & care less where the Chips Fall if its PROVEN TRUE "OBUMMER" is A FAKE TRAITOR & needs to be Removed from office. Better a Cleaned out White House than a cesspool full of Bolshevic Traitors.

Lets just see what kind of "CHICANERY" the Lame Duck Dumocrats try to pull off between Nov 3 & Jan 20 2011 !!! Time for a breath of FRESH AIR MICHAEL!

Look Beneath The Surface

Look Beneath The Surface after the election - we have rampant vote fraud via electronic voting machines - ask this: If it is possible to flip the vote, given one minute alone with the machine, without a trace (according to the Princeton Computer Science Dept. study released two years ago) can you really with a straight face say that it isn't happening on a grand scale? Can you really say that 'only the Republicans are doing it'? Something bigger than the parties is at play here - only party members who support certain interests are allowed in the game - left or right, doesn't matter. Don't lament electoral losses - worry about wholesale vote fraud all over the country and the fact that we no longer have legitimate elections, and haven't for years.

We need to question all

We need to question all these calls to stay home and not vote. There are right-wingers out there working mightily to suppress the Democratic and Progressive vote because - duh! - then their wacko right wing candidates will win. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing. VOTE! Don't give up. Don't "punish" the Democrats who, admittedly, could have done a better job representing progressive values by voting for Republicans, because what comes will be much worse. Vote for the Dems and then make sure they vote for us. We can replace them come primary time, but please, never vote for a rabid right-winger who will do everything possible to make your life miserable.

Those Tea Parties are the

Those Tea Parties are the lapdogs of capitalism and need a boot not in the head, but their asses. I say to you Tea Party scum this message: Stop from voting if you dare.

Wow, a real-life birther.

Wow, a real-life birther. Sorta like a flat-earther.

Good post at 20:02.

It is surprising that the

It is surprising that the repuganants have committed and will commit atrocities against America, but more surprising is that there are A LOT of people who are their past and future victims but do not understand that and fall for their platitudes. Amazing how successful they have been in dumbing down America....

@20:02, you know the

@20:02, you know the Democrats are not progressive don't you?

Just today, Obama is out calling for murdering more brown people and pouring money into the facist security state because normal security found a couple of bombs.

America just needs to collapse. We'll all be better off.

The party liners must be

The party liners must be desperate, but the only argument is "vote for Democrats or the Republicans will get in ..." and what then? The transition between Obama and Bush was seamless and before that, the transition from a Republican congress to a Democratic congress was seamless. After all, the Dems continued to support the war and Obama himself voted to extend the Patriot act. Obama still continues to allow the murder of innocent civilians every day and the criminal actions at Gitmo. And all the Dems have to offer is "well, he had to do it because it'll keep him in office!" Whatever.

20:02 - You Defeatist Loser

20:02 - You Defeatist Loser - we can avoid a collapse if we do these things - impeach O, restore Glass Stegall, shut down the Federal Reserve Bank - this will require abandoning both parties, which are both frauds working for the banks, pharma, MIC and have our currency policy decisions made in the light of day - something that all of the bipartisan powers that be have prevented. This will mean accepting those who have called for this consistently, such as Ron Paul, who has actually acted in support of working Americans rather than the corps.

Waaaaah. The world ain't

Waaaaah. The world ain't perfect.

But we still have to live in it and make decisions.

Any sane liberal person will conclude that the Dems are vastly preferable to the Thugs.

To hell with the nihilists and the Republican vote-suppressors. You can't tell them apart, and who cares.

"Details" worth

"Details" worth mentioning:

Obama opposed the Iraq War from the start. He has withdrawn 100,000 troops from the country. He also tried to close Guantanamo, but the Senate voted not to fund the closure, 90-6.

"Just today, Obama is out

"Just today, Obama is out calling for murdering more brown people and pouring money into the facist security state because normal security found a couple of bombs."

Yeah, well some of those you call "brown people" are quite interested in murdering us. It's a bloody mess, with responsibility all over the place, but nothing excuses the actions of the Taliban and al-Qaeda, certainly not righteous PC BS.

"America just needs to

"America just needs to collapse."

Wow, there's a brilliant plan. And maybe its nuclear arsenal will take all multicellular life with it. But what would a nihilist care.

Calling the collapse of

Calling the collapse of America "nihilism" is typical of you lot, thinking you're the centre of the universe. It's just political evolution, dummy. The Soviet Union collapsed and you all thought that was great. Life goes on. Moore is right to be angry, but his naive faith in the two-party system is absurd. There are the stirrings of direct action in Europe and it's to be admired, but there's a long way to go. America will collapse because the power brokers can't be stopped. You put 'em there. For as long as you think by getting out there and voting WE CAN ACHIEVE CHANGE, you'll achieve nothing. Educate yourselves about the rest of the world and you might see that there are alternatives to war economy corporate managerialism. Meanwhile, keep watching the World Series and buying Chevron, guys.

Whoa! The fascists are

Whoa! The fascists are already here... and have been for 12 years. I now consider myself an Anarchist, because Anarchy is a safer alternative to the Fascist G.O.P. and bomb throwing Tea Baggers. The problem with America is Money.(and money is the reason that none of the political parties can be trusted! BTW, who gets most of the money? The most guilty ... that would be the GOP) The Republicans have fortified their elections season on fear, and fear alone. Fear is a tremendous motivator! It worked wonders for the Nazi party in 1933, following the burning of the Reichstag. We do not have a democracy in America, we have a de-facto FASCIST STATE. If a woman at a political rally is forced to the ground and assaulted with both a symbolic and REAL BOOT to the head, then your REPUBLIC no longer exists. America is complete fraud in pantheon of free, civil, and democratic nations. In my mind America is no longer exists. It is rule by corporate control, an illegitimate nation, the Oligarch ... in effect a "CORPOTACRACY" where Corporations are worshiped for their single minded attention to the bottom line. Finally, the major problem here is the fact that the African American president really pees off the impotent white males. Sorry, but speak truth to power. Thank you, Michael Moore. At least someone has a pair.

Grandiose blah blah about

Grandiose blah blah about collapse from the "nihilists" (or whatever).

We'll see.

Right now we have an election to win.

As usual, more heat than

As usual, more heat than light. But to this outsider, the temperature appears to be approaching meltdown. There are many variations on the same theme, but it comes down to polarized thinking, and I believe that if the country were to split in two most Americans are already clear about which side they would align with. The last serious attempt at real compromise on a fundamental issue was in Missouri, 1840; 20 years later, 100,000 died in Civil War. Time to realize we're all in this together, and sit down and reason together.

@22:53, it wasn't a

@22:53, it wasn't a withdrawal and combat has not ended. We're still knee deep in Iraq trying to kill their freedom fighters.

Also, Obama has chosen to expand the war on freedom fighters into Pakistan and is threatening Iran, a country that has never attacked us.

A vote for the Dems or the Republicans puts blood on your hands. But, Americans are happy with murder as long as it's "over there."

Why don't you idiots

Why don't you idiots understand -- vote for the Democrats 'cause the Republicans are far worse! Far far worse!

Read Howard Zinn's History

Read Howard Zinn's History of the American people. We must never give up. It's always been a fight by the poor, the disenfranchised, the landless, the voteless. Look to 1700, to 1800, to the Gilded Age when, like today, corporations ruled. Do you think Republicans are going to stop Wall Street, the banks, the degradation of earth? The Democrats have their own failures, their own weaknesses, and too much disagreement at a time when we need strength and steadfastness. But most of them get that we are a community of people, not just moneyed entities greedy for all they can get.

Taliban = freedom

Taliban = freedom fighters?

Yeah, right.

As an American and a human

As an American and a human and an animal, you already have blood on your hands. You'll just get a lot more if the Republicans are back in power.

Get out here and vote. and

Get out here and vote. and after Nov 2nd? Email and phone call your congresscritters. Democracy in action doesn't stop after election day.
Do not even think of sitting this election out! Had the RepubliCons and the Sarah Palin-Koch Bros. Inc their heads.
And then get to work on the Dems!

That's the spirit,

That's the spirit, 16:16!

Democracy is always a work in PROGRESS.

Not to worry; the military

Not to worry; the military will take over in 2011.

I've heard this story

I've heard this story before.I fell for them. Twice!! Vote democrat (2006) and we will stop the Bush abuses. Yeah Nancy good job. Vote Democrat (2008) things will change. Yeah Barak good job.

If things had changed Bush and all his war criminals would have been impeached. If things had changed the banksters would have folded and their CEO's would be in court right now, prosecuted for fraud, torture would have stopped, wars would be over.Real health care reform would have passed, not the insurance company give away that that fraud was.

Do I feel like a fool? Hell yes.

Insanity, keep doing the same thing and expect different results.

The only progress we have made in the past four years is that now we know for sure that the Democrats are as big a fraud as the Republicans. There is no difference between them.

I will vote on Tuesday but only for third party candidates. Throw those who betrayed you out.

Thank you Michael for saying

Thank you Michael for saying what we've wanted said. If we vote in huge numbers. If we all get out there, weather or no weather, disgusted and displeased as we are, and vote for the closest thing to Life, we'll be able to hold that Line!
But more important is to then stand up strong as the American People and demand change.
"We voted you in and you owe us." That's what big money expects to do isn't it? Well, look around, together we are the BIG money.
Liberals are at fault because when Obama was elected and started gaming on us we didn't stand together and pressure him back on the path.

I would like to know from

I would like to know from all these Dems that claim progressives can take by the party by putting pressure on them, exactly how do we do that?

Apparently not voting for them doesn't teach them a lesson. Voting for a third party will get you chastised and blamed for handing over the election to the repugs. Calling and writing your "representatives" seems to have no effect, nor do polls that express the clear will of the majority. We have no access to MSM to reframe the discussion. Taking it to the streets? I don't think so.

So how do we reclaim the Dems as our own? The answer is, we can't. It's a line of bullshit just to get you to vote for them yet again, to maintain the status quo.

The only way out of this quandary is to turn our backs on the Dems. Period. Vote for third party, vote for none of the above; or don't vote at all, which only legitimizes a broken system that desperately needs to be delegitimized.

Let the repugs take america and drive it into the ground. America is failing -- speeding up its rate of failure will only benefit the world (and America too!) in the long run, no matter how painful the short term will be.

Why on earth would you vote

Why on earth would you vote in such a way that John Boehner becomes Speaker of the House? Do you think he would have any intention of giving working people a fair shake?

Self-destructive and stupid for sure.

"The only way out of this

"The only way out of this quandary is to turn our backs on the Dems."

No, it's not.

That's a way to make the quandary far worse by facilitating the election of Republicans.

But I suspect that's what you really want, anyway, troll.

"No, it's not. That's a way

"No, it's not.

That's a way to make the quandary far worse by facilitating the election of Republicans."

Good way to avoid answering the question about how we can reclaim the Dems. All you've got is fear.

Fear is a lousy reason to vote for the Dems, and doesn’t answer the question about how progressives can “retake” the Dems, no less “push them harder.” Come on. I’ll wait.

I read"The Government" The

I read"The Government" The President" "The corruption of our Democracy" and think-who is really responsible for this. Guess what-we are. Why have voters not asked for troops to be present at rallies? Why has'nt, there been an outcry when lies were told and the President hung in effigy? Where were we the people? We are responsible for our own government; for the politicians we put in office. We are responsible t know what they stand for. We have fallen down on the job.We are responsible for what is happening and we are responsible
to change it.

"Where were we the people?

"Where were we the people? We are responsible for our own government; for the politicians we put in office. We are responsible t know what they stand for. We have fallen down on the job.We are responsible for what is happening and we are responsible to change it."

Sadly, that's the lie we're supposed to internalize.

This country was never intended to a true democracy where the people had a say in the way things were meant to be run. The framers of the constitution feared a tyranny of the people, thus did they set up what James Madison called a "necessary fence" against the majority will. Roger Sherman said "The people should have as little to do as may be about the government." Elbridge Gerry said that "The evils we experience flow from an excess of democracy," Do your own research, learn how "the primary responsibility of government is 'to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority'" according to James Madison.

The people are prevented from exercising their will in America by design. The history of America is a history of how that will has been prevented from being fulfilled. We are now seeing its denouement.

It's a lot easier to get the people to blame themselves for their government's problems when they believe they have had any say in it. We haven't.

False question, really,

False question, really, since progressives never owned the Dems in the first place. The Democratic Party has always been a broad coalition, of which "progressives" are only a small part. In terms of elected officials, it consists of a spectrum running from people like Kucinich and Feingold to conservatives like Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln. (The Republicans Party starts then starts to the right of those last two and stretches to the outer limits.)

You can find information about the demographic breakdown of the party online--but only 50% of it consists of self-identified "social liberals." Progressives can exert influence through the party and attempt to pull it further to the left (just as the Tea Party has been successful in pulling the Republicans further to the right). It will take a lot of work, money, and organizing, though. Still, the Democratic Party is our natural home; without it, we will have exactly nothing. And when Republicans are in power, we have no influence whatsoever. Sane people understand these things.

Just because we have

Just because we have legitimate reasons to fear Republican rule does not mean there are not other reasons for supporting Democrats.

Obama and the Dems have done a lot of good things in the last two years. For those who are interested in the actual record:

Attention

Attention boneheads:

"There's really no hope for America. Better to stay home and let it all fall apart. When America is gone, then progress can be made."

You do understand of course that as it falls apart, it is going to do it IN YOUR HOUSE. You do know that, right? You do know that what you're talking about is letting the bullies take over, and bullies like to see people suffer. People like you. People like me. You do understand that when they take over they are likely to force everyone to live by their standards, or suffer for it, right? Some of them intend it at gunpoint. You do get that too, after seeing the lone wolves who took it upon themselves to try and shoot liberals, don't you?

So, before you get to decide that I should enjoy the teabilly thugs breaking down my door and putting a gun to my head and my wife's head just as much as you plan to enjoy it, you need to understand that you don't get to make those decisions for me.

"The Republicans want you to

"The Republicans want you to stay home. They're counting on it. They know that many Democrats are disappointed in the pace of progress, which is one of many reasons they worked so hard to obstruct it. Now they want to stop progress dead. An enthusiasm gap is their greatest joy. All the efforts they make to suppress the Democratic vote are as trivial compared to the possibility of Democrats suppressing their own votes. If you don't avail yourself of your right to vote, you will be doing the Republicans' bidding. You will be doing their work for them."

--Laurence Lewis, Daily Kos

If you combined the One

If you combined the One Nation ralliers and the movement they represent with the Stewart/Colbert ralliers and the movement they represetnt behind a common program of progressive demands, you would see the most powerful mass movement in the history of this country.

So why all the despair?

Don't you people want to be rescued?

Tf there was someone there

Tf there was someone there to tape this atrocity why did they not call 911?

Someone has probably already

Someone has probably already submitted this, but:

It seems we've reached the future.

Moore... You're an

Moore...
You're an idiot.

For starters, look at the move on activists video in slow mo... Look at the whole thing. Foot on shoulder? Ok
Head? never happened.

What would you have when an unknown, disguised person holding an unknown object rushes a candidate
with unknown intentions? See it they kill them, or simply hold up a sign to their camera guy?

Boot up YOUR ass!

NYT article about what labor

NYT article about what labor has to lose from the upcoming election:

Show some solidarity with the working class! Vote for Dems.

> Head? never

> Head? never happened.

Which is why you can actually hear her glasses cracking in the video and why she suffered a concussion.

Liar.

> holding an unknown object

She was clearly holding a sign, not a weapon.

Liar.

You jackals who try to excuse violence against a lone innocent woman are at least as bad as the perpetrators. You are beneath contempt.

"Show some solidarity with

"Show some solidarity with the working class! Vote for Dems."

The Democrats have never represented the interests of the working class. A vote for them is also a vote for more neoliberalism and more power for capital.

Absolutely smugly false,

Absolutely smugly false, 21:23. When the minimum wage goes up, it's because Dems push for it. Just as one example. Dems have worked for the interests of labor from the New Deal onward. That's why the unions contribute to and fight so hard for Democrats. They know their interests better than you do.

"Dems have worked for the

"Dems have worked for the interests of labor from the New Deal onward."

Are you being intentionally deceptive? Does it hurt to lie so much?

Or are you so painfully self-deceptive that you actually believe your own bullshit?

Yr a f$cking Republican,

@15:48... Thank you for

@15:48...
Thank you for this! You are absolutely right. I am a small business owner & a progressive. I am so often dismayed at the muddled thinking of libertarians. Your comment was succinct & correct.

What a bunch of breathless drivel. As usual, Moore is right about his social criticisms of the Republicans and utterly wrong economically. [...and then] I am a libertarian and have many friends who are progressives. They are 100% good people who mean well, but unfortunately their ideology really WILL produce fascism (of the non-racist variety, of course) because of its love of the all-powerful State. —"

It really makes me sad that you feel this, and worse, that you're thinking in this way. Progressives and Democrats are *completely* in agreement with your ideas of libertarian freedom from restrictions upon small business people. (On that score, then, you are actually quite off base.) The so-called "Big Goverment" that Progressives DO NOT want, and is exactly what you want, is the Big Corporations get all the welfare, none of the regulation applied, and still get away with the farm.

Regulations are not one-fit-for-all-businesses. Regulations are there to curtail Huge Business, the ones with the money and power to literally say to the gov and the regs: "fuck you, and fuck off." You small-business libertarians need to get together with the Progressives ‚— we are fighting for the exact same liberties. When will you guys *finally* get that?!
