Arundhati Roy: Becoming Internal Security Threats
Saturday 27 March 2010
Novelist, activist, journalist, internal security threat? Arundhati Roy joins us for a special conversation about her journey into the forest in the heart of India to talk to Maoist revolutionaries.
Roy talks with Laura about resistance and struggle, war and colonialism, how you can't fire bullets at an ideology, and why we should all become internal security threats.

All the best Ms Roy. I hope the hope outlives us.
The Naxalite terrorists that
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 13:55 — Apuleius Platonicus (not verified)The Naxalite terrorists that Arundhati Roy is now devoted to defending are responsible for over 6000 murders during their 20 year long reign of terror in India's "Red Corridor".
These Naxalites openly declare their admiration for both Joseph Stalin and Chairman Mao. Here is a direct quote from one of their leaders, from their main newspaper "People's March" (in June 2006):
"Dependency on one or few individuals instead of developing collective leadership and involving the entire Party membership and the masses in decision-making has been one of the causes that led to great reversals in Russia and China where, after the demise of outstanding proletarian leaders like Stalin and Mao, the CPSU and the CPC turned revisionist so easily."
Arundhati Roy's new playmates are nothing less than a bunch of Pol-Pot wannabes.
Interesting that the quote
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 15:49 — Anonymous (not verified)Interesting that the quote from "one of their leaders" in the comment, "The Naxalite terrorists that," seems to be encouraging DEMOCRACY by stating a need for "developing collective leadership and involving the...membership and masses in decision-making," just as our Supreme Court has decided to let corporations influence our elections with their deep pockets--an act that could abolish democracy here.
Apuleius Platonicus...you
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 16:02 — Yossarian_22 (not verified)Apuleius Platonicus...you are the epitome of the corporate PR flak!
I remember when the Khmer Rouge had the backing of the CIA/US Govt when the Vietnamese army moved in to STOP the Pol Pot massacres...where were you?
This is a real life Avatar unfolding right in front of us. 'All hail corporate profits' is the order of the day. Appetitis Profitus and HIS playmates will always drag Stalin and Mao into the debate in order to confuse the issue.
When the united Socialist
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 17:29 — Apuleius Platonicus (not verified)When the united Socialist Republic of Vietnam invaded Cambodia in December of 1978 to bring down the Pol Pot terror regime, I supported that (to be honest, no one in the Vietnamese Communist Party actually asked my opinion at the time - but my opinion was that they made the right decision).
And the Khmer Rouge not only had the support of the CIA, but they were also supported by the Peoples Republic of China!
It is the Naxalites themselves who drag Stalin and Mao into this. Stalin and Mao are their heroes and exemplars.
Arundhati Roy apparently thinks that anyone who claims to be fighting for the poor and oppressed can adopt any old ideology and any old tactics and it's all good. But then why doesn't she go "walking" with Osama Bin Laden?
Naxalites or Maoists are
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 22:26 — PIGA (not verified)Naxalites or Maoists are murderers. More than 6000 people have been murdered by them over last five years. Besides, they extort more than Rs 1000 crores a year as "levy". If someone, anyone, be it one as discredited as Arundhati Roy, praises them, its a crying shame. Her sponsored story in Outlook recently published is full of half-truths and lame lies.
May God save her.
There's a CPI (Maoist)
Sun, 03/28/2010 - 23:25 — Ranga (not verified)There's a CPI (Maoist) Politbureau document entitled "Post-Election Situation—Our Tasks' of 2009 which can be seen at http://www.bannedthought.net/India/CPI-Maoist-Docs/Circulars/Post-electionSituation-PB-circular.pdf.
Skip to page 2 (3rd para) where it says "Thus the Congress, with just over a hundred million votes or roughly 15 % of the total votes, has formed the government ". Compare it to Arundhati's comments in the video.
The CPI (Maoist) Politbureau document further on page 13 goes on to say "The link between Raoghat mines ....... should be explained and the people should be educated as to how the entire region is being handed over to the comprador big business houses like the Tatas in Lohandiguda, Essar in Dhurli, NMDC‟s proposed steel plants in Nagarnaar and Dilimili, Raoghat mines and Bodhghat project." Isn't this the theme of Arundhati's song?
Is she a spokesperson of the CPI (Maoist)? You be the judge.
Power to the people! That is
Mon, 03/29/2010 - 01:55 — Ken Hall (not verified)Power to the people! That is what Ms. Roy is talking about and she is internationally acclaimed for her efforts to empower people instead of corporations. I'd much rather be living in a democratic socialist state in Europe, where I have spent some time, than what passes for democracy here in the states. Ms. Roy speaks for the common man and more power to her!
It takes courage to take on
Mon, 03/29/2010 - 04:17 — Courage. My Foot!!! (not verified)It takes courage to take on Islamic Fundamentalists. How many have really lost lives defending terrorists / painting Hindu god's nude or defending the Naxals.
Now try drawing a cartoon of Muhamed and you would know what courage means.
It would be laughable if it was not tragic to call Arundhati courageous. She is pimp for the terrorists and naxal (perverted like whores).
Well. its is actually
Mon, 03/29/2010 - 13:27 — In response to. "Courage. My foot!!!" and others. (not verified)Well. its is actually laughable to see that how something, that shakes your comfort zones, seems so perverted to you. Perversion, sadly, for you is only limited to call some 'WHORES'? As if it is only the whores who are perverted! it is shameful, that whores and pimps are part of your abusive dictionary. I am sure you are a man, commenting from your comfort zone again, for if any day you would have to go to one, I am sure you would never be the one who is perverted. Similarly, since you are the beneficiaries of the development, you have all the legitimacy to comment on those who are put at stake for you to rise above the grounds of morality. there is no point in arguing about the other side of the story to someone, who has no sense of the society, and who could just brush the topic in public by calling someone "whores and pimps".
The problem in India is that
Wed, 03/31/2010 - 12:09 — Anonymous (not verified)The problem in India is that she is being turned, stealthily, into an Oligarchy from a Democratic Republic. In the former, the Common man works for the Oligarchs and in the latter, the Government works for the Common man.
There have been a lot of protests and murders in India, due to this change.
I hope the people of India will defeat the aims of the Globalists, who are the leaders in the present Indian Government.

Wed, 03/31/2010 - 12:57 — Vishnu Sharma (not verified)Arundhati Roy is the epitome of an AMORAL NIHILIST !
That is what she is by her open support of Al-Qaeda and Maoists.
She is personifies the phrase 'Anderes Denken'
Which means : i think the opposite of what others rationally think.
Clearly she would have gladly assumed the role of Tokyo Rose or Axis Sally or a Holocaust denier right after WWII
"We must all become internal
Sat, 04/03/2010 - 04:36 — Luis (not verified)"We must all become internal security threats"
Beautiful!
I wonder if those who are denouncing the insurgents as murderers and terrorists are also equally indignant over the murdering and terrorising carried out by the Indian state. In the latter case, I imagine that what would be denounced as senseless and unjustifiable killing when carried about by Maoist rebels suddenly gives way to an appreciation for the context of the situation. "Well the government has to have a hard response to terrorism." Okay, then why not be consistent and say that the people living in these areas, who are made to live in conditions of abject poverty, can also find justification in a "hard response"? That's being consistent by YOUR criteria. Of course, platitudes are unidirectional; when official enemies use them, we see them for what they are; but when WE use then, they take on the status of axiomatic truths.
"She is pimp for the terrorists and naxal (perverted like whores)."
It seems obvious to anyone who has not completely lost his senses that the designation of "perverted" applies with far more aptness to the sectors of Indian society that systematically horde wealth at the expense of the vast masses of poor people (who, strangely, you expect should act like angels while they are being robbed and exploited). What do we make of the "pimps" who act as apologists for corporate interests and their local lackeys and proxies?
It's quite clear that those who denounce the wrongs committed by the Maoists while having nothing to say about the far greater wrongs routinely committed by the Indian state and its corporate partners cannot possibly be speaking from a viewpoint even approximating principle. They are simply apologists for state violence and injustice, and hide behind the shroud of "fighting terrorism" to conceal the vicious and murderous system they want to draw succour from. As such, their opinions can be dismissed without further comment as pure hypocrisy.

Wed, 04/07/2010 - 01:35 — Aditya (not verified)Arundhati Roy is a 10 dollar Naxalite whore. Communists get a discount on mass fucking sessions, only $8.95. She is not too good, but throw in another dollar for a blowjob.

Thanks for those helpful comments. I hope you realise that nothing you just said made any sense, and that, frankly, you sound slightly deranged.
Can you actually refute anything she says, though? Or anything I said? I look forward to any real comments you might have.
