Israeli Attack on Flotilla Sparks Wave of International Protests

Rami al-Meghari watched the news unfold from live video feeds monitoring international waters 65km off the coast of the Gaza Strip Monday morning, one of Gaza's 1.5 million residents anticipating a shipment of wheelchairs, prefabricated homes, crayons, raw construction supplies, dental surgery equipment and reams of paper brought by international humanitarian activists on board a flotilla of boats.

However, the flotilla was intercepted and attacked by Israeli naval commando units, flanked by armed speedboats and helicopters. Soldiers climbed on board the Turkish-owned Mavi Marmara ship and opened fire with live ammunition, killing at least 19 people and wounding 60, according to the latest reports.

A journalist living in Gaza's Meghazi refugee camp, al-Meghari tells Truthout that the attack was a devastating blow to the Palestinian people in Gaza - who have suffered through a three-year-long blockade as Israel forbids the entry of essential goods and humanitarian supplies, including medicines. He says he was horrified at what took place on the ship. "I am in absolute sorrow for the human loss," he said.

From the occupied Gaza Strip to the San Francisco Bay Area, global reaction in protest of the Israeli military's attack on the flotilla has been swift. Outraged by Israel's attack on the flotilla, and fueled by international news headlines and internet-based information swapping through sites such as Twitter and Facebook, tens of thousands of people across the world have taken to the streets in sustained anger against Israeli policies and the actions of its military toward the humanitarian aid flotilla, while the United Nations and the Turkish government work to impose diplomatic pressure.

Palestinians in the occupied West Bank launched demonstrations against the Israeli military immediately following the attack, but the protests were quickly dispersed and banned by the Palestinian Authority's security forces. Earlier in the day, Israeli forces shot a young American journalist in the face with a tear gas grenade during a women-led demonstration at the Qalandiya checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem. There were also protests inside the old city in occupied East Jerusalem, while others demonstrated outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's house in the Western side of the city.

In the Palestinian city of Umm al-Fahem in northern Israel, Palestinian youth burned tires as Israeli forces attempted to lock down areas of the city. Elsewhere, Israeli and Palestinian protesters descended on the city of Ashdod, where detention camps had been set up by the military to hold those arrested from the flotilla and to where some of the ships on the flotilla were being towed. Protesters in Haifa and other northern Israeli cities also joined the day of action.

People in Egypt and Jordan took part in similar protests as thousands across the region demanded that their governments sever diplomatic and political ties with Israel. Lebanese demonstrators surrounded the UN headquarters in Beirut to condemn Israel's policies and the violent attack against the flotilla.

In Turkey, thousands of protesters attempted to storm the Israeli embassy in Istanbul right after the killings. Later in the day, Turkish government officials categorized Israel's attack as "state terrorism" and withdrew its ambassador to Israel as thousands of protesters hit the streets in spontaneous demonstrations demanding justice for those killed in the attack and for Palestinians in Gaza.

In Canada, protests were planned at Israeli embassies and Federal buildings in an "emergency response" to Israel's aggressions. Seven thousand Swedish demonstrators hit the streets of Stockholm as the Swedish government summoned its Israeli ambassador, condemning the attack as "completely unacceptable" and demanding clarification by the Israeli government. Sweden had several of its citizens on board the ships.

Meanwhile, across the US, pro-justice activists took to the streets in anger and anguish over the killings. Protesters organized in New York City's Times Square, and in Houston, Cleveland and Seattle, among other cities. University of Chicago freshman Sami Kishawi tells Truthout he joined a massive demonstration in downtown Chicago on Monday afternoon. "I will remain open and willing to participate in dialogue that will reveal to the public the grim reality of the oppression of the Palestinian people," he said.

In the Bay Area, activists protested outside Israeli embassy in downtown San Francisco. Oakland resident Amir Qureshi told Truthout that he joined the protests in solidarity with the more than 600 activists on the flotilla, and is taking part in other actions as well, including countering some of the Israeli propaganda that's filtered down inside the US corporate media and calling US representatives in Congress. "Ordinary unarmed global civilians from more than a dozen countries have the courage to take on Israel's navy in support of the besieged population of Gaza and even give our lives in doing so," Qureshi said. "Such global solidarity shows the power of people and how it can affect global causes."

At the same time, condemnation of Israel's attacks have come from global leaders and icons of civil rights and justice. The Elders - a contingent of past and present world leaders and Nobel laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and Jimmy Carter - released a press statement on Monday declaring Israel's attack as "completely inexcusable."

"This tragic incident should draw the world's attention to the terrible suffering of Gaza's 1.5 million people, half of whom are children under the age of 18," The Elders' statement said.

Back in Gaza, locally-based civil society groups sent out a press statement urging the international community to take direct action against Israeli policies. They wrote:

<blockquote>"We Gaza based Palestinian Civil Society Organizations and International activists call on the international community and civil society to pressure their governments and Israel to cease the abductions and killings in Israel's attacks against the Gaza Freedom Flotilla sailing for Gaza, and begin a global response to hold Israel accountable for the murder of foreign civilians at sea and illegal piracy of civilian vessels carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza.

"We salute the courage of all those who have organized this aid intervention and demand a safe passage through to Gaza for the 750 people of conscience from 40 different countries including 35 international politicians intent on breaking the Israeli-Egyptian blockade. We offer our sincerest condolences to family and friends who have lost loved ones in the attack.

"... The people of Gaza are not dependent people, but self sufficient people doing what they can to retain some dignity in life in the wake of this colossal man-made devastation that deprives so many of a basic start in life or minimal aspirations for the future.

"We, from Gaza, call on you to demonstrate and support the courageous men and women who went on the Flotilla, many now murdered on a humanitarian aid mission. We insist on severance of diplomatic ties with Israel, trials for war crimes and the International protection of the civilians of Gaza. We call on you to join the growing international boycott, divestment and sanction campaign of a country proving again to be so violent and yet so unchallenged. Join the growing critical mass around the world with a commitment to the day when Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as any other people, when the siege is lifted, the occupation is over and the 6 million Palestinian refugees are finally granted justice."</blockquote>

From Gaza's Meghazi refugee camp, al-Meghari said of Israel's actions Monday morning, "violence only breeds violence. And as long as Israeli repression remains in place, Palestinian and pro-justice people around the world will keep up their resistance to that repression."

Thank you, Nora, for your

Thank you, Nora, for your reporting not just on situations but on the people themselves and from their own voices!

Things aren't as black and

Things aren't as black and white as has been presented here or in the commercial media. There is a blockade, whatever you think of it, and these people and ships knew full well they were not going to get through before they set out. The Israeli's offered to guide the ship to the Ashdod port, off load the goods, and take them over land to Gaza, but that was refused. Did the people aboard the ships actually want to get the humanitarian aid to Gaze or just challenge the blockade? Sounds like the latter. When they were boarded as they knew they would be, the were prepared to fight. These were not innocent people being attacked. This was well planned.

Your portrayal of events

Your portrayal of events regarding the legitimate boarding of ships by Israel is very much biased and slanted to make it look like Israel "attacked" the ship.

Shame on you for using a news forum to further your own political agenda, Nora.

It saddens me that the truth gets distorted by Pro-Palestinian sympathizers like this author who write as if there was no guilt on the flotilla's part of having known criminal and terrorists on the one ship that resulted in violence.

Did the author mention that the "citizens' on the ship were criminal and terrorists? I think not.
Did the author mention that the "citizens" attacked the Israeli's first, which led to the action of Israeli's defending themselves? Of course not.

These so-called journalists are really biased and use their writing to promote a particular political cause....i.e. supporting terrorism and it's war against non-believers.

Israel cannot say it wants

Israel cannot say it wants to live in peace in Israel. which is a reasonable aspiration in any country, as long as they send forces against humanitarian aid in such a way that people are killed and wounded unnecessarily. Two people of my generation whom I know and trust, Bp Tutu and Pres. Carter, as well as other "elders" call Israel's actions unacceptable, and rightly so.

This is a sad situation all

This is a sad situation all around. But if the activists were serious about delivering their goods, why did they not simply allow their ships to be inspected? They had nothing to fear as long as they had no arms. Doesn't Israel have the right to protect itself from a regime that is committed to its destruction? It does seem that there was a political game at work here, not simply an earnest humanitarian shipment.

Come on, I mean - please!

Come on, I mean - please! Those Israelis simply THRIVE on insulting the so-called international community. They operate totally outside any sort of enforceable international law, and they love it. Have you noticed the permanent sneer on the faces of their politicians and spokespersons, looking down on the rest of us as if we were dumb bugs? I grew up in Hitler Germany, I'm familiar with that sneer. Israel would like nothing better than to trigger WWIII. Then they could sneer at everything all the way to kingdom come! Pete Edler, Stockholm

I commit to the boycott of

I commit to the boycott of Israeli products. If anyone knows of companies/products that may not be obviously from Israel, I would appreciate the posting, so I can be sure to avoid them too. This has gone way past ridiculous now.

Every news site and opinion

Every news site and opinion site on the web has these Israeli apologists who try to defend "poor little Israel" from the approbation of the world community for their crimes. There is an app available from the website giyus.org (give us your united support) which allows Israelis and their supporters to follow in real-time web postings world wide but especially in the US. It seems hasbara has become viral in more ways than one. If Israeli actions were not so violent and unjust you would not need your own volunteer propaganda corps.

It was not a legitimate

It was not a legitimate boarding because the blockade is illegal. Even if it were, to go on board and start shooting is sick and barbaric.(about those attacks from the victims, maybe you should listen to the German eyewitnesses before you attack anyone who condemns this massacre) Putting people in ghettos is sick and barbaric(Remember warsaw ghetto) This is no different. Oh Hamas doesn't think you have a right to exist so this justifies your, bombing hospitals, schools water rights. Destroying peoples homes, crops and health so you can expand your boarders. I can't imagine why Hamas feels the way they do. I can't imagine why Iran feels the way they do as you continually lie about your nukes you refuse inspections and you threaten war regularly. I just can't imagine why everyone in the middle east wants you gone. I was always supportive of the right for Israel to exist I am no longer so sure.

Let me get this straight;

Let me get this straight; the nice friendly Isreali commandos drop from attack helicopters at 5 AM wearing masks armed with heavy weapons that they've been trained to kill anything in their path with while supported with gun ships aiming their weapons at this ship on a humanitarian mission to happily guide them into port so they can deliver the goods to the people they hate. Then the commandos kill 19 people.

Do you think I'm a fu##ing idiot? All the pro Isreali comments here are in total denial of the facts. Bottom line, they MURDERED innocent civilians and must pay.

I've worked so hard to understand and accept the Isreali viewpoint over the years but it ends now. Isreal is a brutul, murderous nation that couldn't care less about anyone other than themselves.

Is it reasonable that Israel

Is it reasonable that Israel would invite the wrath of the world's condemnation by committing an unprovoked attack on a 'humanitarian' effort? The whole world is always watching whenever Israel is involved in an incident. It is not in their interests to be the 'bad guy' so how is it that there are two, diametrically opposite reports of this incident? Could the deeper meaning be more obvious?

For the second time in some

For the second time in some months I am somewhat concerned at reactions from readers.

In response to certain statements... one reader suggests/claims that provocation of the blockade could only have culminated in such a conflict. Well, maybe, you are right. That would mean though that each time one is faced with injustice, and knowing full well that force will be deployed, one should stand down. All references to peaceful demonstration throughout history show that as demonstrators walk/sail towards their oppressors the inevitable aggression occurs as the only way to prevent the conflict is for the barrier to be raised. This begs the question of the 'barrier'; why will the protagonists of a Zionist state not raise the' barrier'? (I refer to the instigators of this violent act as Zionists to refrain from blaming the people of Israel. This type of atrocity is not condoned by the moral base of Israel, in the same way that not all South Africans or Irish Protestants would have condoned the apartheid regime in their respective countries) Why so much fear from the people of Gaza? And the response of terrorism is not an adequate answer as it means very little in a world where people/nations are being destroyed by the overwhelming greed of man for money and mineral riches; this international state of affairs terrorizes me. Should I call myself a victim of terrorism? So let us put aside semantics and try and truly find the leverage that will bring these communities together.
The civilians 'attacked... first ...'. With what? Knives? It seems that our capacity to create coherent ridicule knows no ends. I refer to the hijacking of planes in the not so long ago attack on Manhattan where the world media led us to believe that hijackers controlled a plane using box-cutters. I amn't quite sure why, having taken so much time, thought, energy, logistic expertise, identity control and audacity that one would finally say, 'Oh and we mustn't forget the box-cutters'. I am sorry to be flippant but if we are to accommodate the theory that this fleet of ships knew that a conflict was imminent, they also knew that they were up against one of the most lethal and highly trained military machines in the world with extraordinarily competent commandoes. It stands to reason that one would sufficiently arm oneself for the battle. I believe there was no battle.
Now for the final 'anonymous' remark as of present.
A 'war against non-believers'. It would be in the interests of all and a sign of respect for literate journalists if such childish statements could be kept away.
I have been reading Truthout for some years now and although I do not always agree with the analysis given I commend them for structuring a media support that gives wide opinion and thought provoking coverage...TO ALL. This is how man can advance.
My own personal belief is that political interest in Israel is starkly infested by fanatical religious fervor. Judaism shares its fanaticism with the Christians and the Muslims. Such stances are radically different from the true essence and I have noted as I age that people with an unnatural religious fervor are more often than not very poor students of their faith. Unfortunately these people often have wealth and power.
I look forward to following the progress which can be made from this tragic situation for indeed now more than ever progress does have to be made.
Kindest Regards
Finn Anson

Post Scriptum

I do not understand why people wish to remain anonymous here. Are you afraid of 'reprisals' in what ever form might be forefront in your mind (What the neighbour might say/losing a job/Secret Services...)? The use of international forums does further reconciliation as discussion takes place but I would certainly feel a sense of trust if I participated with people having enough confidence in what they say to identify themselves.
It would seem more sincere.

At the end of 2008, the

At the end of 2008, the brave israeli defense force attacked Gaza, with bombs and white phosphorus, killing 1,350 (60% children) and severely wounding 5,450 (40% children). israel lost 13 people, which includes 4 IDF soldiers killed by the IDF. Per capita, israel is the most well-armed country country in the world. Gaza is probably the worst equipped, and Gaza has had an illegal blockade imposed on it by isreal since 2007. A UN commission headed by a Jewish judge named Goldstone found that israel had committed war crimes. But israel refused to admit to doing anything wrong, and the US stood beside her partner in crime. The US House passed a resolution condemning the Goldstone report 344-36. Never mind the video of israel dropping white phosphorus on civilians. Never mind the WP dug out of children. The MSM continues to filter down the israeli propaganda, and the people of the US continue to eat it all up like good little slaves.

ALL & ANY military is

ALL & ANY military is trained to kill--that is their purpose, so don't expect any less. & when they have the weapons & power, you might want to consider who is going to make the final determination 'self-defense'? There was report of an activist N.Cetin w/ a 1yrold baby--if it be true-?-that is abusive & stupid to your child, & criminally negligent to take your own child in harms way.Not like the Turks have not have differences & killed anyone?I don't think the Isrealis should have done what they did & the incident was preventable...but those approaching have to take some of the blame too:you don't walk into a lion's den unprepared. 4BOTH sides:2 wrongs donot = 1 right.

Israel has basically changed

Israel has basically changed the game and hastened their sure demise. We will see less buying and supporting of European and US debt by the GCC and its investment arm Sovereign funds.

Turkey/Venzuela/Brazil/Argentina, Iran constitute the new G5 and will slowly and inexorably root out the use of dollar trades in their respective economies by trading on their own currencies and not the dollar.

If anything -I see a huge expansion of financing to Palestinian, Hamas, Hezbollah which will result in a better even more well trained militia than they have now. Expect Jordan, Syria and even Egypt to cut ties (if not formally) than informally. Egypt in particular may be the next 'ally' to fall -and fall hard.

Israel has just alienated any good will it may have had in dozens of nations.

The Israelis have legitimate

The Israelis have legitimate security concerns about a ship entering Gaza (gun running, etc.) but the way they handled this incident was totally inept and heavy-handed. It should have been handled through a diplomatic, not military, process.

The ships should have been approached by non-armed inspectors in small craft and escorted by strong military backup. If the inspectors were threatened or attacked, then they could have radioed for help. As it was, the Israelis provoked this incident out of a habitual mindset, "The best defense is a good offense." Airlifting armed soldiers onto an unarmed aid ship is not very skillful if one wants to make peace with one's neighbors. What did the Israelis expect the aide workers to do? Of course, they would try to defend themselves in any possible way against the soldiers who, obviously in this case, were the threatening party.

If it is serious about a two-state solution, Israel should seize every opportunity now, as the side with power, to begin to treat relations with Palestine with respect as they would with any other country, and not as with a penal colony which is what Gaza has become under their rule.

This was small potatoes

This was small potatoes relative to 9-11 where mossad killed 3000 people and started a regional war by blaming muslims. Yes there is abundant proof if you will just open youe eyes. Visit 9-11 truth.com for the evidence. Enough of these jewish nazis

I've been in demonstrations

I've been in demonstrations before, where one group is going to do civil disobedience and engage with the police/soldiers, while the others are peaceful. THe fact is that the other ships did get boarded and taken over, peacefully, land the goods distributed. THis one ship had armed people who wanted to engage and were willing to put their lives on the line for their cause. They knew exactly what they were doing. I'm against the blockade, but the reports of this event have been biased and simplistic. Truthout has a fairly good description of the event.

I thought Truthout brought

I thought Truthout brought the truth - this is a made up series of the events that took place. Why don't you get the facts straight before printing stories. Here is a link to what really happened: www.danielgordis.org. Israel did not attack the minute it got on the boat - their weapons were strapped to them behind their backs; they were attacked by the activists on the boat for 30 minutes before the Israel's attacked them. Another fact, Gaza markets were full of food and supplies - the Gazan's were getting aid through Israel and Israel was planning to send this aid through; but because of the precarious position Israel is in it has to examine ships for weopons, etc. Please, please, please, print the truth - don't make up lies to substantiate your belief system.

Alex 21:49 says the Israelis

Alex 21:49 says the Israelis attacked with heavy weapons? I think not. They were armed with paint-ball guns and side arms. That doesn't sound like they were preparing to massacre anybody. Clearly these Palestinians were prepared to be massacred otherwise they would have accepted the Israeli offer to unload their cargo in Israel so it could be added to the humanitarian aid that is shipped into Gaza daily. Instead they chose confrontation and got what they expected.

Israel is the aggressor yet

Israel is the aggressor yet again, and they claim it was self-defense. Of course they do! What else is new? It never occurs otherwise. This has been going on for decade upon decade, for over half a century, and the so-called enforcer of human rights, the U.N., continues to allow Israel to get away with mass murder. It appears it will never end.

Next Israel will claim that they found weapons bound for Hamas on the ships, weapons that Israel planted there. That is predictable too. Those who have mercy on besieged peoples are supposedly enemies, and all possible attempts to discredit and carry out crimes against humanity against non-violent international aid workers will be carried out.

And, because no end will be brought to this madness by humankind, I continue to beseech with "my" prayer, the final prayer in the New Testament, the words of the apostle John crying unto God through Jesus the Messiah in Revelation 22:20 (the Jews Messiah, too, whether they know it or not), "Even so (return very quickly), Lord Jesus", and bring about Your final end to all of humanity's mass-murderous insanity!

Trouthout or someone else,

Trouthout or someone else, give us a list of products made in Israel so that we may be able to avoid buying them. I know that the Eppi company who makes razors and shavers is in Israel and a chain of markests sells a grape juice from Israel as well. We need a comprehensive list.

All of you who support

All of you who support Israel's actions in this conflict by using the excuse that Israel had the "right" to board the ship and "inspect" it are dead wrong. The ship was inspected as it was being loaded and it was not in Israel's territory when it was boarded illegally. It was in international waters. What Israel did is called piracy and kidnapping. And its not the first time.

They brought what? Why not

They brought what? Why not check and see what in fact the Israelis did deliver from the seized ship: medicine that was out of date...and it took 600 people plus young kids to bring these goods? Fact: Gaza closed for inspection by accord with US, Russian, Fatah, Egypt when Hamas got in power...Blame Israel? Ah, the knee jerk reaction of the left amazes me.
note: wait till we learn about who ran the operation, who the 60 are who are held and refuse to give names of countries; and I would not be surpised if our NSA has not monitored what took place throughout.Have you seen the display of knifes taken in the raid--these were not kitchen silverware.

Ummm, so the 19 were painted to death?

A wave or protests....yeah,

A wave or protests....yeah, like there was re Rawanda, Zambawi, North Korea, China's lack of humanrights, Cuba's tyranny, Iran's mass murder of its own people for demonstrating, Putin's heavy handedness, etc., etc. If this is what the world thinks, screw them, I'm sticking with the U.S. and Israel.

I am so sick and tired of

I am so sick and tired of left wing media siding with the religious fanatics. Hamas represents everything the left should despise. The way they treat women. The way they treat freedom of speech. The way they educate their children. The fanatical way they approach the world. Their absolute intransigence at being open to making peace.

The Israelis don't want to be bombed from Gaza. That's why they have set up the blockade. Israel has always been willing to trade land for peace, if they had a partner to negotiate with. Israel has proven they can negotiate successfully for peace through their peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan.

You left wing Israel haters should go and try to live under one of these fanatical Islamic regimes some time. I think you would change your tune very quickly. Life in Israel is free and open. Arabs living in Israel have a far superior life then they do in any of the neighboring Arab countries surrounding them.

Enough with the righteous indignation already. Hamas is crazy. And anyone who supports their cause is just as crazy!!!

The Israeli propaganda

The Israeli propaganda apparatus is absolutely stunning. It is the most well disciplined and well organized machine the world has ever known. It develops a strategy for its targeted audience and executes brilliantly and flawlessly.

I think there is one simple and essential fact here that is not in dispute:

Armed Israeli soldiers forced there way onto a civilian vessel in international waters in a pre-dawn commando style military raid.

With that single fact alone Israel automatically forfeits any claim of self defense. The issue of the passengers offering a resistance with weapons is just irrelevant as well as absurd. The only weapons the passengers had were what they could fashion from common things found on most ships. Had they pulled out AK47 rifles and opened fire on the attacking Israelis they still would have been within their right of self defense.

Thank you Finn Anson, for a

Thank you Finn Anson, for a long and rational response. Shame on all of you who are making pathetic attempts to rationalize an illegal act which took place to stop an attempt to break through the original illegal act of blockade.
I understand, if you're Jewish, the shame and horror must be unbelievable. There have been expressions of outrage in Israel itself.
But please, if you're going to try and defend this kind of behaviour, don't keep using the same tired excuses that Israel has been using for 60 years to justify its savage and inhuman treatment of the Palestinians.
Have you so soon forgotten you own suffering, and what the world did to try and compensate for what was done to you?
As a Canadian, I too am ashamed that my Prime Minister is entertaining the man who delivered this outrage, and that Canada, which once stood for decency and compassion, is almost alone among the nations which have spoken out against it.

Where is Obama when Justice

Where is Obama when Justice must be served?
He is war mongering in Korea.

Do a quick study of his past campaign finances and you will see his top contributors are conduits for the family that built his alma mater - The University of Chicago.
The are the Rockefellers of Banking, the Rockefellers of Oil and the Rockefellers of War.

So he will be silent here, like he was when the oppressed people of Haiti were further subjugated by the continuity of murderous US policy - policy that harks back to the purchase of the Remington corporation by Percy Rockefeller who join hands with Samuel BUSH to make a killing on "The Great War".

I was very critical of former CIA Director James Woolsey when he announced (CNN April 3 2003) that we were already entangled in World War Four, which would not end for a long time, but in his April 1st speech he was not joking we he referenced other analysts who viewed the entire century as a continuum of interlocking wars.

The current hawkish regime of Israel has been encouraged and vastly strengthened as the right hand of GW Bush durng his 8 years and is the active aggressor in the middle east.

We must act in peace.
We must demand that our President step forward as a leader and demand nothing less.

Even for the most heinous

Even for the most heinous acts Israeli apologists still argue against all logic and sensibility. Their blockade is illegal, the boarding of the ship is illegal, they killed 19 civilians, and armed or not, the Israelis had no right to board the ship. Israel thinks and acts as if it is a law unto itself. In addition to its inhumanity in Gaza, let's not forget its illegal invasions and bombings of Lebanon on several different occasions, use of white phosphorus against civilians (a war crime), facilitation of the massacre of 1,000 civilians in Lebanese refugee camps, etc. ad nauseum. This latest action is merely a continuation of a long string of such incidents. For those who wish to be enlightened, read British reporter Robert Fisk, especially his book Pity the Nation. We get little objective reporting from the US media and Fisk provides what is missing here. He doesn't spare anyone and wrote that in the Middle East there is no right and wrong, only wrong. Israel is no better than its enemies, and in some cases, is worse.

The Dalai Lama might see

The Dalai Lama might see this differently. Since Israel personifies hatred and self-loathing it cannot improve by being hated. It can only be helped by the world looking into its own heart and eliminating hatred and loathing from it. In other words forgive Israel, love Israel. Love may indeed be the only antidote to hate.
Granted, those Israelis will need one heckuva lotta lovin', and then some. Pete Edler, Stockholm

Watching the ABC evening

Watching the ABC evening news tonight it was said that "Israeli soldiers were 'lightly' armed." BULL, those rifles don't look that "light" to me. The people of this country have only gotten the Israeli side and that is why we continue to support them and God help you if you criticize any of their policies, that would make you Anti-Semitic.
My sympathies to all involved.

It is sad that we ALL

It is sad that we ALL respond out of our prejudices and political inclinations, regardless of the facts. Have the people responding with hatred explored their feelings and tried to hear both sides? Do we help the situation by expressing our rage and violent wishes? Humans seem set on destroying themselves and our planet.

Alex, as I said in my

Alex, as I said in my original post (23:10) they carried side arms (pistols). Pistols are not heavy weapons by any definition I know. Another poster mentioned seeing rifles but evidently they were actually paint ball guns. The fact that paint ball guns were not mentioned in any TO article is very disturbing. Truth is truth whether you like it or not and the truth is that Israel is fighting for its very existence in the face of absolute Arab intransigence.

ISRAEL HAS PROVED ITSELF TO

ISRAEL HAS PROVED ITSELF TO BE A TERRORIST STATE.

No, Palestine, and Lebanon,

No, Palestine, and Lebanon, Syria and Iran, are fighting for their very existence in the face of absolute ISRAELI (and U.S. government) intransigence! How you Israel firsters and apologists get things exactly, and completely, backwards! But, of course, we live in an extremely backwards world, where the unrighteous is supposedly "righteous", and the righteous are supposedly "unrighteous"! Are most of the righteous perfect or completely right all of the time? No! But they have a right to defend themselves (and you would do so with sticks and stones, and bombs, suicide or otherwise, if that's all you had, especially against a much bigger military force that mass-slaughters many more innocent civilians than the defenders will ever do)! I am so sick and tired of the excusing of the huge military might of the mass-murdering machine that crushes-to-death millions of innocent people!!!!!!!!...

...How blind we are to

...How blind we are to proportion, by design of the propaganda apologists for the much bigger mass-murder machine! Because we don't think the mass-extermination by fighter jets and bombers are just as atrocious as suicide bombs! Get real! The former is far worse because it is are carried out on a much larger scale, in one foul swoop, over and over and over again! And, just because the bombs and missiles are U.S. and/or Israeli, etc., doesn't make the atrocity(ies) any less! In fact, the purveyors of mass destruction and murder are MUCH WORSE purveyors of atrocity(ies)! Wake up and face the ABSOLUTELY HUGE level of mass-murder compared to the MUCH SMALLER mass-murder of the defenders. But the MUCH LARGER proportion(s) of atrocities by the aggressor(s) is and/or are excused! What kind of "ass-backwardness" is that, which is excused again and again and again and again, ad nauseum!?!?!?!

God help us all in the face of the intransigence of the blind apologists for the much greater mass-murderous machine, and in the face of that much greater mass-murderous machine itself!!!!!!!!

Teach a man to fish. Not

Teach a man to fish. Not one of those activists thought to bring machine tools or the parts to build a factory so that the Palestineans might become self-supporting.

Say, ignorant

Say, ignorant "Brother_Unknown", did you ever think that they weren't allowed to bring such tools or parts because such are interpreted as being able to be used for producing weapons? Fully use the brain that God gave you, for His sake, PLEASE!

".....israel....the Nazis of

".....israel....the Nazis of our time......"

Ok S. Wolf Britain, you

Ok S. Wolf Britain, you sound a lot like a religious extremist which would make you part of the problem.

Of course a Godless liberal,

Of course a Godless liberal, or Godless whatever you are (so-called "conservative", "neoCON" and/or "neolib", etc.?), like yourself, "AnonymousDV", would think that. And, also of course, any level of religiousness is supposedly "religious extremism" to the likes of you. So, no matter how much I might seek to deny that I am in any way(s) a religious extremist, it wouldn't do any good to do so, because you would continue to believe that I supposedly am no matter what, especially when I quote from God's Word(s), the Bible.

Let me guess, you think I'm a "right-winger" too, don't you, another thing that I'm not? But, if I were a religious extremist and/or a right-winger, I would most likely be an apologist for Zionism and the unconscionable actions of the Israeli government, which I'm also not. Well, your struck out twice now, do you want to go for strike three by considering me to be something else that I'm not? It wouldn't surprise me if you do, and it's no skin off my bones.

Call me a "Jesus Freak" too if you want to. I consider that a very high compliment, just as I also consider being called a "conspiracy theorist" (something else that I'm yet again not, but only a "conspiracy 'factorist'", so to speak, or "conspiracy 'fact-ist'"). No, I'm not "part of the problem" either, but I'd be interested in hearing how I supposedly am, if you can give a Truly Rational explanation of how I supposedly am, though I don't think you can.

Truly Rational people aren't apologists for mass-murderers, and true terrorists to the fullest extreme of the term. They don't excuse the indefensible like people such as yourself do. And they don't make ad hominem attacks when they can't give a Truly Rational response to someone, and/or those, who is and/or are calling evil by its right name, evil. But you don't even TRULY understand what I'm saying, do you? There is no reasoning with Evil's apologists like yourself...

...Evil and evil people like

...Evil and evil people like yourself cannot be reasoned with. All people like yourself can do is give evil arguments back "justifying", "excusing" and rationalizing the irrational, inexcusable and unjustifiable, if that. You are indoctrinated, conditioned, programmed and "washed-of-brains" by evil so much that you can't see the Light at the end of the tunnel; and, because of that, the chances of getting through to you are slim to none. You are just very likely much too immersed in darkness and evil to get through to.

As the great believer in Christianity, and psychiatrist, Dr. M. Scott Peck, so rightly and correctly said, "(T)he evil (people) are the most insane of all (people)".* Thus, those like yourself who "justify" evil, and are thereby complicit in, a part of, and/or guilty of perpetrating it even by their indirect complicity in it, are the most insane people on this planet. But, of course, your ilk are the "sociopaths" who are supposedly "normal" and the so-called "sane" ones. Well, since that is the case, God save us from ALL of the so-called "sane" people!

( * From his book, People of the Lie; excerpts of which can be read at: http://www.form-legal.com/wolf-two.html#evils )...

...Now, here's some more

...Now, here's some more "religious extremism" for you: Thank God that He, through His Son, Jesus the Christ (the Messiah of Jews and non-Jews), is going to bring all of this mass madness and insanity to a complete end very soon, and eradicate all evil and evil people who will have destroyed themselves by their love and "excusing" of evil, and their grieving God, their Maker / Creator, away from them, the unforgivable sin (and/or evil). Again, "Even so (return very quickly), Lord Jesus (the Christ)"! [Revelation 22:20; etc.; emphasis and/or clarification(s) added by me.]

As we are coming up to the

As we are coming up to the anniversary of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty, which took place on June 8th 1967, it is well to be reminded of the fact that relatives of US Veterans are, to this day, still waiting for proper accountability and redress...from the US government...

Good lord, you really are a

Good lord, you really are a religious extremist of the highest category... the kind that burned the Jews at the stake during the Inquisition. I'm sure Jesus will be real proud of you.

Paint ball guns...you have

Paint ball guns...you have got to be kidding
you believe that and brother I got a beautiful toll bridge to sell you...right here in SF Bay

9 people were killed, thanks

9 people were killed, thanks for the lies propaganda and incitement though. Lets be real here, the Radical Left and the "peace" activists are flying under a flag of false morals.

It is time for the world to stop lying to themselves and building false narratives. Take responsibility and be good. Follow in Israel's steps.

Well said David. I am sure

Well said David. I am sure it would be an easy thing to objectively report how many people were killed and by what sort of weapons. But the question is, how many news sources would bother to report it and how many would believe it. I guess such is life on the lunatic planet.

only ppl with dead souls

only ppl with dead souls would quibble over whether 9 people being killed instead of 19 somehow changed the equation here or made israel's actions one iota more justifiable or less disgusting. israel's actions here were not only reprehensible but in fact illegal.

As always, the psychopathic

As always, the psychopathic Israelis are defended by dips that cannot accept the truth about this criminal state, established as a center of Zionism and for protection against its thousands of illegal and inhumane acts against the rest of mankind.
Without the backing of the US Government, Israel would not even exist, as it is NOT the homeland of the so-called Jews, who are in fact for the most part Khazarian Mongols that took Judaism - the exact opposite and enemy of Christianity - as its national "religion" in 745 AD.  Thus, perhaps as many as 90 percent of Talmudic worshippers have no Shemite blood.

Anti-semitism (a made up trigger term) means anyone that tells the truth about the so-called Jews.  You defenders of the rogue and quite mad State of Israel do not even know that the so-called Jews are not Shemites (they stole the term and changed it to Semites), but the Palestinians and other Arabs are.

It is a massive fraud perpetrated and perpetuated by madmen that believe through the traditions of men that they are superior to all others when the fact is they are inferior to most.  They are not Israelites, nor do they call themselves Israelites.

Persecution to these people – the Zionists Israelis -  mean when they cannot exploit Christians and Muslims.

A reactionary is anyone that reacts to their Zionist crimes against mankind.

For Pete’s and the sake of all mankind, Israel was not even created legally.  The Palestinian land was stolen from them.  Israelis had no right to the land, and after receiving the stolen land, immediately began violating the laws of righteousness. Look up the Deir Yassin massacre by the psychopathic Begin and the Irgun terrorist group.  Read about Begin claiming the beginning of the world’s terrorism.  Read Israel Shahak, Benjamin Freedman, Jews against Zionism, and hundreds of other Jewish sources warning the world of Zionism and the illegality of the State of Israel.

Anyway, rank and file so-called Jews (whether of Sephardim or Khazarian descent) are in as much danger or more than what the Jews call "gentiles".  Their psycho leaders will lead them to doom through criminal acts, the last being the raid on the flotilla.  If you do not believe the danger to ordinary so-called Jews, learn the true history of WW II and who pulled Hitler’s strings.  Hint:  It is the same group of psychopaths that carried out the Bolshevik overthrow of the Russian Czar family, the Romanov family, including children.  The American Hebrew Magazine, September 10, 1920 issue, stated it clearly, as did dozens upon dozens of other sources.

Anyway, learn that Zionists are the evil that has created every war for centuries, wars used to overthrow successful countries, make the Jewish bankers tons of money, to steal the properties of others (there was no such thing as foreclosure in America until the Jewish bankers took over), and so on for volumes upon volumes of well researched and accurate reporting rather than the re-writing of history as the Zionist owned publishers and owners of mainstream media engage in daily, if not by the minute.

Study the Armenian holocaust of millions by so-called Jews called the “young Turks”.  Study why dozens of countries kicked out the Jews, including England that did so four times.  Study the fact that much of Christianity has been Judaized by the Zionists.  The Evangelists are not fundamentalists and are in fact no longer Christians but more like Crypto Jews.  They actually support the Zionists, people that hate Jesus Christ with a passion (roughly 1/3 of the Talmud is written in hatred for Jesus and Mosaic law).  Study the marranos of Spain, Crypto Jews that were eventually driven from Spain, a Christian land just as is America.

America will find out the truth that much of the world already knows, that Zionist Israelis are heartless, blood lusting thieves, and destroyers of all that is good in mankind.

And, then you apologists for the righteous deniers, the Zionist Mongol mongrelized so-called Jews will awaken to the truth – and regret every word you wrote in defense of the most extreme psychopaths mankind has ever suffered.

BTW, I hold no hatred for those that worship Judaism’s Talmud and Kabbalah in general but do, however, despise the actions of the Zionists and their control over our governments through the International Judaic banking cartel.  I also despise the ignorant, indoctrinated people that defend such actions and their hold on America.  As for people, I judge each by his actions but do not generalize to the whole of the people, as you apologists do.

Those who support Israel's

Those who support Israel's acts are deceived if they believe it is a small, defenseless nation whose survival is at risk. It is the only country in the region with extensive nuclear weapons plants, with over 200 nuclear warheads. Their last irrational act of agression against civilians on a humanitarian mission, in international waters and their subsequent excuses and accusations only look and sound ridiculous. The bottom line, though, is the horrible fact that it is indeed a rogue state and will use its nuclear power without provocation.
Our politicians controlled by AIPAC fail to realize how dangerous it is to keep turning a blind eye to Zionist fears of persecution.

Het 21:51 — ed lewis - I

Het 21:51 — ed lewis - I think you left out the part about jews (excuse me, so called jews) who feast on babies stolen from christian families... YOU are a troll and a raving lunatic!

Anonymous DV, my earlier

Anonymous DV, my earlier reply to you was not posted...no matter. I thought I had a good rejoinder to your comments but now I just feel sorry for you. Your cold-hearted ignorance is a terrible burden that you aren't even remotely aware of, particularly in the face of stark reality and reason as provided by Mr. Lewis. You may wish me ill but I do wish you well, poor Anonymous DV, and I'm no Christian.

No, "AnonymousDV", YOU are

No, "AnonymousDV", YOU are the one who is a raving lunatic! A completely washed-of-(TRUE)-brains raving lunatic at that! Ed Lewis gives the True History of so-called Jews, the "Jews" who completely unrighteously, illegally, and without a semblance of a true leg to stand on stole land that hadn't been their's for almost two thousands years because God allowed them to lose it due to their thousands of years of backsliding and turning their backs on God; and carrying out their own, not God's, will over and over and over again, as they are doing now.

It's like those who refuse to accept the True History presented by Howard Zinn (RIP), and continue to accept and believe the false and/or rewritten history that Columbus was supposedly a great, heroic, savior of the "savage(s of the) New World", and that the mass-extermination of the "savage" North, Central and South American Indians, though "regrettable", was a supposedly "necessary" eradication of the "heathen" so that the "righteous 'Christian' 'chosen people'" could exercise their "manifest destiny" and inhabit their lands "like they were meant to"...

...It is no wonder that the

...It is no wonder that the right-wing "Christians" get along so famously with the Zionists, and that they are kissing cousins; because they have so much in common in those ways; for, after all, the Zionists have now done for decades to Palestine and to the Muslims of much of that region what the so-called "Christians" did to the New World. Just as every native of the New World was supposedly a "heathen" deserving of almost nothing but slaughter, or brainwashing into the counterfeit "Christianity", every native of the Middle East who has occupied so-called "Israeli" lands for thousands of years is a "heathen" who is deserving of nothing but slaughter, or being completely driven from their lands to anyplace else but the "Jews" now un-holy, so-called "land(s)".

If the lie were true that every Muslim, or even but a very small fraction of Muslims, wanted to drive the Jews into the sea, it could not be any real surprise that they would want to do so considering the mass slaughter, imprisonment and torture that the "Jews" have carried out against them. And, if it wasn't for the support of the U.S. and world government, the "Jews" either would never have permanently reoccupied Palestine and Jerusalem in our age in the first place, or they would have already long ago been driven from those now Muslim lands which have been Muslim lands for almost two thousand years...

..."It is written, thus says

..."It is written, thus says the Lord God [through Jesus the Christ (the True Messiah of both Jews and Gentiles), the Word(s) of God, and the Maker / Creator of all things except evil]...": "...I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are (of) the synagogue of Satan..."! "...Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before your (the Gentiles') feet, and to know that I (God) have loved you (the Gentiles)..."! [Revelation 2:9 and 3:9; etc.; emphasis and/or clarification(s) added by me.]

It's kind of sad to see

It's kind of sad to see people blurring the fact that families are now distraught over a tactical plan that wasn't thought out well enough to include the impact on humans. The Israeli's are like the muslims with a better PR department...Mostly normal people but the few insane ones embarrass the entire country and culture.

All I can say is thank

All I can say is thank goodness we live in a secular society where religious extremists like those here who spew this sort of irrational, hate filled nonsense are unlikely to ever gain power.

Israel is in the right to

Israel is in the right to defend their own territories against people who may have injurious intentions towards them.. I applaud the stand Israel took and hope they continue to do so.

Well I hope Israel thinks of

Well I hope Israel thinks of a better way to stop the Rachel Corrie when it gets there. I realize my posts look like I'm an Israel supporter, but Israel has their own religious extremists who want to annex the west bank and Gazza. Their continued settling of Arab lands furthers their aims. There's plenty of blame to go around and I am very pessimistic about the prospects for peace.

So in case you think I may

So in case you think I may be quibbling on my position I feel I should tell you why I am supporting the Israeli side. The reason is really very simple.Terrorists who hide behind the skirts of innocent women and children do not deserve to win. They MUST NOT WIN! The Israelis don't do that and neither do the Americans. When we go after these terrorists there are frequently innocent people killed along with the terrorists. This is by design of the terrorists, plain and simple. Those of you who blame Israel or the US for the deaths of these innocents being used by terrorists as shields ought to consider what will happen as a consequence if the terrorists are allowed to win.

AnonymousDV-The postmortem

AnonymousDV-The postmortem shows the following:
-9 shot and killed by 30 9mm bullets
-a 60 yr old man shot 4 times in the temple, chest, hip and back
-a 19 yr old shot 5 times from less than 45 cms in the face, back of the head, twice in the leg and in the back.

How dare you even post your ridiculous views here, you swine. Self defense? Paint ball guns? Go to Hell.

Please do not forget the

Please do not forget the ADL, the American branch of the B'nai B'rith, JDL, the CFR (American Zionist branch of the Illuminati), the SPLC, and an untold number of other so-called Jewish organizations hell bent on destroying America and taking all of its resources (including human resources as we slaves are called) and the resources of the world.

They are not the "chosen people" except by their father, Satan. For those that do not believe the Zionists are vile, hate-filled racists, research and study their thousands of inhumane acts against people for the past 2100 years, but most especially in the last 200 after gaining control of England, France, Russia, Germany, Turkey, Spain for awhile, China, and dozens of other countries including America since 1913.

These people are never the victims, except for the so-called Jews sacrificed by Zionist leadership, and are always the psychopathic aggressors against all that is righteous.

Right-on, Ed! And AIPAC,

Right-on, Ed! And AIPAC, etcetera... And the Bushs' and Obama, etc., all work for them!

I was going to let my

I was going to let my previous post be my last in this thread but I just couldn't leave without posting a hearty THANKS to the three nut jobs who, by there very words, reveal what is truly in their souls. Good job guys!

"It is written, thus says

"It is written, thus says the Lord [God through Jesus the Christ, the True and Only Messiah of both Jews and Gentiles, the Word(s) of God, and the Maker / Creator of all things except evil]...":
