We're proud to provide live coverage of the One Nation Working Together rally in Washington, DC from our friends at Free Speech TV (FSTV). Hundreds of thousands of activists will be descending on the nation's capital to march in solidarity at the national mall.
The FSTV broadcast will be hosted by Thom Hartmann and Laura Flanders and will feature main stage speeches as well as interviews with analysts and organizers in the crowd. As Truthout previously reported, among the 150 groups comprising One Nation Working Together are the Courage Campaign, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Communication Workers of America (CWA), the National Council of La Raza and Planned Parenthood.
Watch it here from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

Sat, 10/02/2010 - 11:57 — Tyler Westbrook (not verified)This is an Obomba pep rally, not a peace rally. Glad I did not get on the bus for once. Obomba is a war mongering pro corporate criminal. I will never vote against my heart again. Let us rally against the machine, not for it.

Sat, 10/02/2010 - 12:28 — Tyler Westbrook (not verified)I revise my comments. These people are doing mostly a good thing. The message of "Health Care not Warfare", green jobs and The truth of Racism, war and climate and economy all tied together. Sanity and real American Values are well represented, how ever it feels co opted by the DNC, as if that is any solution.

This was an awesome event,
Sat, 10/02/2010 - 15:11 — On the ground (not verified)This was an awesome event, people were upbeat and the weather was incredible. Plenty of cops and annoying steel barriers everywhere - sometimes to go 'north and south' required a 1/4 mile walk to find the "hole". Particularly around the Korean War memorial, just a snake of fencing everywhere, I guess to separate the war rememberers from those against more wars.
With the technology I saw on display, the police have an *exact* headcount. That's a stark contrast to all the colorful handmade signs:"Medicare for All" , "Out of Afghanistan"

Sat, 10/02/2010 - 15:43 — Anonymous (not verified)One Nation? Is that how the CEOs, board members and the politicos see it too? If they did, would we be in the messes the country has been forced to via secrete plans, secrete agendas and double dealings? It seems the only time the idea of one nation comes into foreground is when the top 1/1000 skin us alive and our anger boils to unbearable level, then the powers to be are creating/promoting these types of rallies to vent the frustration so they can keep skinning us. I will believe it in my 65th BD when I see the facts, not the smoke and mirrors. I think J. Stewart and Colbert are great political satirists and love what they are doing. Politics is a game of power. Hopefully the disorganized, disenchanted people realize the only way to get what they want is to organize. Something good may come out of this venting.

There are socialists there
Sat, 10/02/2010 - 16:44 — Anonymous (not verified)There are socialists there and many of them are friends and comrades of mine. There is a socialist contingent within the larger march that I encourage everyone to check out: http://socialistworker.org/2010/09/28/join-the-socialist-contingent
The message is simple. If you really believe in the (quite good) demands put forward in the march, you can't think that merely electing Democrats is going to get the job done. We need strong, independent progressive social movements to win these demands. We need movements like the labor movement in the 30s and the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s, in order to rebuild the Left and force those in Washington to respond to the needs of ordinary people in this country.

The press is hopeless, they
Sun, 10/03/2010 - 08:40 — Heart Barely Beating (not verified)The press is hopeless, they droned that this was a "show of support for Democrats". No way! It was clear the politicos weren't really interested in participating, but they'll use it for election time.
The press relentlessly frames each election in simplistic "them" vs "us" terms, and rarely names specific public servants or addresses their records.
Many at this event were ignored, the media ignored what they frequently deride as the "left" and therefore not reportable, as dictated by the status quo.
The choices are few and far between this election. Some Senate Democrats, for example, are assured of Senate for life, simply because they are no alternatives. They'll vote for war, they'll vote against what will help the poor and middle class, and come election time they'll face an even more obvious right wing candidate.
