In my last article, I made the following observation regarding the challenges President Obama faced on the eve of his Wednesday evening State of the Union address: "The American people, well-trained in the art of short-term memory loss, have come to the conclusion that everything happening now is Obama's fault, and the polls reflect this without dispute. One speech on Wednesday night won't fix all that ails us, but if Mr. Obama doesn't hit precisely the right notes in the delivery, his second year could come to make his first year seem like a Cape Cod clambake by comparison."
Well, let's see.
On Wednesday night, Mr. Obama delivered that address in fine style, openly excoriating the GOP and the justices of the Supreme Court for their recent bad behavior, and concluded with a populist clarion call that very nearly lifted the dome off the Capitol building. On Thursday, he traveled to Florida and announced the inception of a high-speed rail program that would provide new jobs along the entire length of the eastern seaboard. On Friday, Mr. Obama presented himself before a collection of some 140 Republican members of Congress and, not to put too fine a point on it, bounced them individually and collectively off all four walls in the room.

Press play to listen to author William Rivers Pitt read his column, "Schooled":
How wide a swath did the president cut through the Republicans at that Friday meeting? On Saturday afternoon, MSNBC canceled a scheduled afternoon showing of something titled "Death in the Hollywood Hills" to rebroadcast the Obama-GOP collision. For a major cable network to drop a show about gossipy Hollywood homicides in favor of - gasp! - actual substantive news programming means something truly incredible took place in that room.
It did indeed.
As the event unfolded, it was impossible to avoid comparisons to the British custom known as Prime Minister's Questions. Every Wednesday in the United Kingdom, the British prime minister sits in the House of Commons and answers any and all questions from members of Parliament for 30 minutes. Several other countries - Canada, Ireland, Scotland, India, Australia and New Zealand most prominently - carry on a similar tradition, but the United States has never enjoyed such an enlightening institution. The press can question a president at press conferences and on the Sunday shows, but members of Congress, especially members of the opposition party, have never been given an opportunity to do so. Until now.
One by one, Republican members of Congress stood before Mr. Obama and took their best shots. One by one, he sent them packing with a smile on his face and the facts on his side. One of the most revealing exchanges took place when GOP Congressman Mike Pence (R-Indiana) tried to take the president to task for refusing to support an across-the-board tax cut, and for the massive cascade of job losses that hit the nation last winter. Mr. Obama reminded Pence that the job losses he spoke of took place before he took office, and before any of his programs had been implemented. He excoriated Pence and a number of his Republican brethren for attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies celebrating programs created by the stimulus package they had voted against. He concluded by telling Pence, "I'm going to want to take a look at your math," because Pence's support for massive tax cuts, a spending freeze and a balanced budget all at the same time basically makes no sense whatsoever.
Perhaps, the most revealing aspect of this event came after the deal had gone down. The Republicans in that room were made to look so foolish in the face of this president that a number of them later stated bluntly that it was a mistake to have allowed cameras into the room. Fox News saw how badly those GOP Congress people were being thrashed and cut away from their broadcast of the event a full 20 minutes before it was over, choosing instead to flood their studio with critics of Obama to try and mitigate the damage.
And that, in a nutshell, is the present reality of this Republican Party. When allowed to freely bloviate into the yawning void of modern political journalism, the GOP can score points easily. They are the undisputed world heavyweight champions of the sound bite stab below the fifth rib, and their talents in this regard are fortified by their uncanny ability to have no fealty to the truth whatsoever. When confronted by someone armed to the teeth with the facts, someone who can articulate those facts clearly and completely in front of a battery of cameras broadcasting his words to a national audience on every network, they folded like wet napkins.
In the aftermath of last Friday's presidential deconstruction of his political opposition, a number of commentators offered the same observation: so much for this president's alleged addiction to the teleprompter. Forget about prepared speeches, opined Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. Have this president deliver a few minutes of prepared remarks, and then say, "Any questions?" and let the chips fall where they may. The president's State of the Union address was finely crafted and perfectly delivered, his remarks in Florida the following day equally so, but neither could hold a candle to the off-the-cuff display of verbal pyrotechnics that so singed the follicles of 140 Republicans in that room on Friday.
Mr. Obama's three-day verbal tour-de-force was, to no small degree, exactly what a great portion of the American people had been waiting to see and hear from this president. Nowhere in evidence was the seeming vacillator, the craven seeker of nonexistent bipartisanship, the hat-in-hand beggar or the quiet punching bag we have seen all too much of during the last year. Since his inauguration, Mr. Obama has mostly been sitting back while wild-eyed GOP agitators rained blows upon him, his Democratic Congressional allies and every single one of his proposed programs. He's not an American citizen; he wants to kill grandma; he's a socialist, a terrorist, a despot - it went on and on, and became so effective that it pretty much shattered Obama's signature health care reform initiative.
The American people became savagely frustrated with his seeming complacency, so much so that the accusations made by the GOP began to take hold, no matter how perfectly stupid they were, until an administration elected with a massive plurality and with significant majorities in both houses of Congress found itself playing defense on virtually every front and losing ground everywhere. That guy got stuffed in a bottle and sent out with the tide, apparently, replaced at the end of last week by an Obama who was throwing haymakers and laying people out as he smiled, and smiled and smiled.
And so what, right? We all had an opportunity to enjoy what was in the end nothing more than a refreshing, yet ultimately hollow, piece of American political theater. Nobody can dispute the oratorical and rhetorical prowess of President Obama, and those who forgot this and sought to roll him on Friday found this out to their very public woe. But it was all just words, and nothing more. The president finally pushed back, and did so with ruthless and highly entertaining efficiency, but if he does not follow up on this bravura performance with actual deeds and effective action, that Cape Cod clambake will be over before it started.
We shall see.

Mon, 02/01/2010 - 16:39 — Sharonsj (not verified)One of the reasons Republican talking points take hold is the inability of Democrats to talk back on TV. We need all of them to be "no more Mr. Nice Guy." Politicians are so schooled in not offending anyone that they don't know how to rip a new one--or how to totally lie in the fact of facts. Somehow only the Republicans have learned to do this.

Well, yes, and that has been the problem since inauguration. The president can rhetoric up a storm, but his actual policy is either wholly supportive of the status quo or tepid at best.
I just completed Wired Magazines telling of how the Obama Justice Department quietly made legal all that illegal phone tapping. And what was Obama's campaign stance on that issue?

Scalzi (not verified)A hundred Obama speeches and exchanges with Republican members of Congress or other conservatives will never stem the flow of hatred and political blood lust that the Republican Party has decided to employ as their vicious approach to 2009/2010 politics. They will continue to say "NO" and obstruct any and every proposal by Obama's Party even at the expense of their own credibility. Add to that the relentless misinformation being spread or allowed to be uttered and repeated by the media echo chamber and you have the current situation in which absolutely clear and demonstrated facts are ignored amid the screaming and howling of an angry, ignorant, and detached public aching to blame someone no matter how blind their attacks. It is a fact free atmosphere that is being exploited and abetted by Republicans at all levels. Senator McCain, of my own state of AZ, has opportunistically and stupidly asserted that Obama is guilty of "blaming it all on Bush", even though he knows full well that the fault regarding the national debt lies squarely at Cheney/Bush doorstep. But then McCain has also admitted that the Republican Party has dug itself a deep hole. They may well experience a debacle trying to climb out of that hole in 2010 and 2012 no matter how stupidly the voting public reacts to the national debt.

It is known by many names, as is Satan, whose name is Legion. Presently and for the last 200 years, the forces who oppose democracy are collectively known as the Corporation, whose god is Baphomet (represented in the Devil Card of the Tarot.). Such dim mak blows intelligently delivered can cause the opposition's eventual organ atrophy and ultimate demise, if we who serve democracy keep alive the vibrations set in motion by the Obama. Let us resonate with him and let that resonance spread across the land, in the service of democracy.

Man, I'm tired of this
Mon, 02/01/2010 - 21:41 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)Man, I'm tired of this disingenuous claptrap, Pitt. It's not a matter of whether or not Obama's an American citizen. It's a matter of whether or not he was truly born on American soil, as required by the Supreme Law of the Land, the U.S. Constitution.
You know, Pitt? That document that is required to be COMPLETELY followed and obeyed by every single U.S. citizen, every single candidate for public office, and every single President of these United States?
Anyone who the government deems worthy to be, can become a U.S. citizen. They don't have to be born on U.S. soil. But candidates for U.S. President MUST be born on American soil. No ifs, ands or buts about it.
Sure, Obama claims to have been born in Hawaii, and has provided us with a perported birth certificate that ostensibly shows that he was allegedly born in Hawaii. But it doesn't prove it. Because at the time of Obama's birth, those birth certificates were granted to people who were NOT born in Hawaii or anywhere in the U.S.
Obama has refused to release his long-form birth certificate; which, if it wasn't a forged document, would settle the question once and for all. He also, unlike most U.S. Presidents and presidential candidates, refuses to release most of his personal records. Why is that, if he has nothing to hide?
He has spent over a million and a half dollars fighting the release of his records. Again, if he has nothing to hide, why would he do that? By refusing to release those records, particularly his long-form birth certificate, he is raising more doubts about his Constitutional eligibility to be President, and yet he continues to do so.
"Me thinks he doth protest (far) too much." And so, since ALL of us as U.S. citizens have a Constitutional DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY to uphold the Constitution without fail, we should ALL be questioning why Obama appears to have so much to hide, whether he actually was or was not born on U.S. soil, and whether or not he is eligible to be sitting in the White House as the forty-fourth President of the United States.
It is not some "stupid", "unimportant" issue. Unless of course the U.S. Constitution is an "unimportant", "stupid" document, and "not" the Supreme Law of the Land. But, of course, it IS the Supreme Law of the Land, and it is NOT a stupid, unimportant document! Wherefore, all those U.S. citizens who are not holding Obama to account on this matter, are violating the Supreme Law of the United States. Thus, are you---every single American citizen who is reading this---going to completely obey the Constitution and see to it that it is FULLY upheld, or are you going to (continue to) be traitor to that Supreme Law of the Land, and to this country by not doing so?

Mon, 02/01/2010 - 23:52 — TommyB (not verified)In consideration of your comment Mr. S.Wolf Britain,
actually, it is kind of a stupid issue or trivial technicality . Whether he was born on 100% American soil,( whatever that is , its changed many times) should not be such an important factor for what does place of birth tell you about a person's character, intelligence, integrity, etc? Those things are developed along the way... Palin was born on American soil, and I dare say she's not exactly as qualified as Obama, or hell even Bush to be president.
Why such a fixation on such a minor, and ultimately meaningless technicalityl in the face of character and the like? And sorry but I just can't respect such blind, uncritical support of the same document that once declared my darker skinned friends as 3/5ths a person while denying them any rights, required another national movement and amendment to give women the right to vote, accorded indigenous people virtually no status whatsoever, and, perhaps most importantly in light of recent history my question(s) to you is this- and please pardon my long-winded writing,
You obviously have a great deal of reverence for the flawed (since its creation mind you) document we call the Constitution-right down to details that arguably have nothing to do with presidential characteristics like leadership, integrity, intelligence etc, ....so, did you profess this very intense, unwavering faith in the laws and conditions set forth in the constitution and profess the same degree of criticism for anyone deviating from its decrees during the last administration? My point is, as far as adhering to and respecting the constitution, how does being born and spending part of your infancy, (not even his formative years) in another country COME ANYWHERE CLOSE to what the last administration did to your beloved constitution?need an example, how about the Patriot act for starters...anyone even remember what habeas corpus is? and why its important? Were you this passionate about the constitution while Bush n Co. wire tapped phones and shipped people off indefinitely to Guantanamo and who knows where else to have who knows what kinds of terrible things done to them?
This may be exactly the type of short term memory to which Mr. Rivers Pitt is referring.
Thank you for reading and I'm eager to hear what you think

Because, you admitted
Tue, 02/02/2010 - 02:40 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)Because, you admitted traitor to the Supreme Law of the Land, the U.S. Constitution, and therefore to this country, "TommyB", it's a matter of loyalty, and that's what the Founders were concerned about and why they put Article 2, Section 1 regarding eligibility for President in the Constitution.
It's a matter of whether a presidential candidate and/or President of the United States is ONLY loyal to the U.S. Constitution and to America, or whether he or she has "dual loyalty" because of giving allegiance to another, or other, country(ies) and therefore NOT having loyalty ONLY to the United States.
There is significant evidence that Obama was very likely born in Kenya, Africa, thereby had British and Kenyan citizenship, and the latter government thereof has sealed his birth records. He also lived for a "considerable", period of time in, and was a citizen of, Indonesia. Thus his loyalty(ies) may lie singularly or primarily with the countries of Great Britain (since at the time of Obama's birth Kenya was a colony of England), Kenya and/or Indonesia. Also, the State of Hawaii has sealed his birth records as well.
Regardless, though, Obama is an agent of the multi-national corporations and international banking cartel(s); therefore, his allegiance is NOT to the United States, he is unconstitutionally and illegally carrying out the office of President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. military, and he is being used to destroy the sovereignty of the United States.
Thus, ascertaining his Constitutional eligibility to be President is an excellent way to challenge the tyranny and treason he is perpetra(i)ting against this country, and the war crimes he is perpetra(i)ting against the world, which are also against and in violation of the U.S. Constitution, other U.S. law(s), and international law(s) and treaties that are joined to the U.S. Constitution under the Supremacy Clause thereof, and are therefore also the Supreme Law of the Land.
But, because the U.S. Constitution had flaws, WHICH WERE CORRECTED, and because this country has made extreme mistakes in the past, does NOT mean we are not to have complete loyalty to the Constitution of the United States. Nor does it mean that Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution is a "mistake" or in any way flawed; and, if it had been, it is an issue that undoubtedly would have been addressed and corrected with a Constitutional Amendment long before now, yet it hasn't been questioned.
And, in answer to your questions, yes I DID have the same "very intense, unwavering faith in the laws and conditions set forth in the (C)onstitution and profess the same degree of criticism for anyone deviating from its decrees during the last administration"; and I DID protest the Constitutional violations, tyranny and treason perpetra(i)ted by the Bush administration just as vehemently, if not even more vehemently.
You make the mistake, like others' here, of presuming me guilty and assuming that I am "right-wing", but I am NOT. Instead, I am a Constitutionalist, as ALL True American Patriots, whether "liberal" or "conservative", are.
ALL issues of violating the U.S. Constitution are VERY important; and, just because the Bush administration's Constitutional violations may have been more serious, if indeed that is so, than the question of whether Obama is eligible to be serving as a U.S. President, does NOT make looking into and hopefully correcting the severe breach of Constitutional mandates ANY less important if in fact he is ineligible to be President; nor ANY less of a responsibility and/or duty to investigate and correct.
Wherefore, instead of making traitorous remarks and unwarranted accusations and/or allusions, completely stand up against the tyranny and treason of ANY AND ALL "Presidential" administration(s), regardless of party affiliation or quibbling over the level of seriousness of their treason and tyranny. Despotism is despotism. Tyranny is tyranny. Treason is treason. And they ALL MUST be stood up against irrespective of their alleged severity; for, it is treason for a usurper to be occupying the office of President of the United States, and a usurper is what Obama is if he is Constitutionally ineligible to be President.

He opened a dialog with those politically afflicted cynics who look to demonize anyone who might oppose their ascension into positions of power. I would like to believe that at heart many of these Republicans genuinely love America and have a shred of decency that can be courted and coaxed into compromise over policies that will help the American people, but I have seen few real signs of decency beyond the lip service and flag waving so prevalent in our political class both left and right. Thank God (or your own Higher Power) for the pragmatist in Barack Obama, because I think that his superior skills in conflict resolution could yet yield fruit from this garden of stones.
Hey there Wolf. Well, I
Tue, 02/02/2010 - 05:30 — TommyB (not verified)Hey there Wolf. Well, I apologize if in reading my comment it appears to you that I assumed you were right wing. How many right-wingers would sit down and read articles found on Trouthout anyway? I wish you wouldn't assume I belong to either quibbling, corporate party. Given the generally more intense patriotism found in right-wing politics, and your intense patriotism, its not hard to see where some might get that impression about you.
Believe it or not, we have some important common ground. It certainly appears that the bankers and corporations got their front man in the highest office of the land once again. It doesn't matter if they are dem or rep. And there lies the dilema with which we are both concerned. Who is Obama, or to be fair, the political system itself really working for? The American people??Hardly. Personally, it seems to this observer that the U.S. is much more accurately described not as a democracy, but more of an international consortium, and most of our politicians reflect that.
However, we certainly still disagree on a few major points. I think its great that you say you're just as opposed to the Bush era abuses of the constitution. So many of the people who are particularly worried about the birth certificate issue, namely the so-called "birthers" never apply your level of accountability to Bush or other officials, they've bought into the ridiculous partisan crap and seem obsessed with anything anti-Obama, as if that were the issue..
But,... I still think the narrow focus on his geographical birthplace to be an extraordinary waste of time and a misplaced priority. You write, "ascertaining his Constitutional eligibility to be President is an excellent way to challenge the tyranny and treason he is perpetra(i)ting..." Really??? Seriously?? An excellent way?? Don't you remember? Our last president intentionally misled this country into war! Thousands of Americans and far more civilians, little kids for heaven's sake, continue to die and we couldn't even impeach him! On the heals of the invasion came Bush and Cheneys oil and construction buddies getting no-bid contracts to rebuild whole nations,...and I hope we all know thats just the tip of the iceberg of impeachable offenses. (Enron, Valerie Plame, Katrina, although none of them involved sex, I guess thats why we couldn't get him...) And nothings happened. In much of America, I think we can safely say a majority now, this kind of knowledge about bush is talked about as if it were common knowledge, but nothing happens. Its horrifying to me the way its like it was sort of in vogue for a while to dish bush, then it became rather passé...Its all about Obama now. That American short term memory strikes again. And you really believe obsessing over a birth certificate is going to put a kink in the global economic elite's agenda?
But you are very correct when you question my patriotism because I have none....to any nation. I dont believe in it. Its just another irrelevant social construct people have come up with to differentiate themselves which inevitably leads to conflicts. Its purely divisive and political. For me, its right up there with and analogous to religion in terms of its absolute irrationality for it has throughout the ages been a force that drives men to violence and war(war being the ultimate irrational behaviour) It makes people extraordinarily indignant. Its usually based on an erroneous notion of some fundamentally infallible, and therefor static document handed down from god or some other great sage(s).--in this case, our esteemed founding fathers who were no doubt way ahead of their time, but they were still fallible human beings, thus all the continuing corrections, corrections that existed primarily on paper, and only slowly were implemented in reality. Yes we "corrected" say, a woman's right to vote and granted them suffrage, but does that mean there is equality between the sexes? No. We had some amazing civil rights legislation in the 60s, but did racism end with that legislation? Is it getting better, incrementally over time? I think so. Same goes for a whole litany of other issues. They were by no means "corrected" on the spot just because the fancy pieces of paper say so. And who are you to speak for the founding fathers? The only thing that seems remotely clear is that they intentionally wanted to create a dynamic, not static document, and had to make a lot of concessions along the way.
Patriotism fosters more of the same ol' "us vs. them" mentality that is steeped in fear, and mandates isolationism and conformity. It makes you say I must be a traitor, Traitor to what? That infallible constitution or subjective notion of a country you have? I wish you wouldn't call me a traitor because it implies something malevolent and subversive. I want what I believe most people want-decent food, water, shelter, education, healthcare etc. ... and we will never get there with the same mentalities, the same levels of thinking with which we created our current messes.
But seriously, after the last 8 years you think we can get rid of a corrupt president with a possible birth certificate technicality? You really think "loyalty" to a nation is that important? Personally, I wouldn't care if the president is from mars as long as he/she honestly cared about alleviating poverty, ending war, hunger, all that stuff. Countries and nations and constitutions are all just more corrupt political contrivances.

Tue, 02/02/2010 - 09:43 — Donna J. (not verified)Well said Tommy B.! I'm sick of having conversations with uninformed people...some of them deliberately so, about inconsequential minutiae. I've long said that the dems and reps are but two factions of the same party, that being the corporatocracy. The whole point of most politicians is fundraising to insure their continued feeding at the font of government. Most do not represent their constituents, see Joe Lieberman, but are wholly invested in their careers. I had great hope, fostered by the Obama campaign, and I still get a charge occasionally, but it is ephemeral. Like a train wreck, I can't seem to look away, but find myself screaming at the TV just like I did during the bush years...mostly 'liar!' Bush/Cheney and Co. should be watching from jail, charged with treason and the fact that they're not is indicative of the rot and corruption at the core of our government. Unless the people get off the couch, get out into the streets, and stand in large numbers at every opportunity to confront their elected officials, we will continue to spend trillions of dollars on war and create thousands of terrorists along the way, and neglect the welfare of the commonwealth. This was just what the hallowed founding fathers feared.

Tue, 02/02/2010 - 10:54 — Anonymous (not verified)S.Wolf Britian - once again you dig your own hole. John McCain was not born on US soil. Unless Panama became a state when we weren't looking. Military bases in foreign countries are not considered US soil. He may just be a "citizen" as you say Obama is. "The supreme law of the land". Common dude. If it applies to one it applies to both. What you should be talking about it the new ruling of the supreme court to allow foreign corporations or governments to put limitless amounts of money into the American political campaign process, thus effecting who gets elected.
What I "should be talking
Tue, 02/02/2010 - 22:23 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)What I "should be talking about" is all of it, which I do, some here, some elsewhere.
Under Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, McCain wasn't and/or isn't eligible to be President either, but at least Congress looked into it concerning him. Obama was given a free pass, and the Dem-controlled Congress refused to investigate, and have covered up, the issue of his eligibility (or lack thereof).
I am against ALL of the candidates, even the so-called "independent" ones, so you needn't worry that I supposedly go after the Dems but not the Repugnants. I go after both sides of the false left-right paradigm. And I believe most if not all of the "independent side" are controlled opposition; so, if they were relevant, or some issue they support needed responding to, I would go, and have gone, after them too.
It's another typical presumption that is made; if someone goes after a Dem President, and they don't spell out everything and prove that they're truly against both sides, they supposedly must be GOP. Well, I would not be a member of any party even if I was going to be murdered if I didn't side with one "corptocracy" over another, for they are ALL mass-murderers that I wouldn't be complicit with if you offered to make me a millionaire if I would be. A few people cannot be bought, and I'm one of them.
I do NOT "dig my own hole". You simply look to create any "hole" you can in order to ignore what I have to say, to "bury" me in, and/or to seek to relegate what I have to share to "the memory hole" in order to get others' to ignore and/or further denigrate me and what I have to offer.
Me "uninformed"? On the contrary, I look at both sides of the issues, such as the "birther" one. You, on the other hand, refuse to fully look at and consider with a truly open mind the "birther" side of the issue; and/or have little or no loyalty to the U.S. Constitution, sovereignty of the United States, and/or to the country itself; and that makes YOU uninformed, and/or misinformed, etc., not myself.
Aren't the right-wingnuts using the "birther" issue to attack Obama any way(s) they can? Yes, of course they are. But they are right on the issue of whether Obama is a "natural born citizen" or not, even if their motives for addressing the issue are not completely pure, and/or even though they DO have ulterior motives. If there had been a question of whether or not BushCON, Jr. was a "natural born citizen", I would have fully supported going after him on that issue, as well as the many others that he more than amply deserved to be gone after concerning.
Fulfilling the requirements of, and/or upholding, the U.S. Constitution is NOT "inconsequential minutiae". It is the Supreme Law of the Land to which ALL U.S. citizens have a responsibility and duty of fealty to, or they are traitors to it and to this country. It is that relatively "simple". NO ONE is above the law under the U.S. Constitutional-republic system of things; and, since most of both sides of the isle are ALL extreme, habitual, multitudinous, mass-murderous criminals, and/or are complicit therein, we must seek to have ALL OF THEM held accountable, and on ANY AND ALL issues of what laws they are in violation of.
Therefore, if Obama is a usurper to the office of the presidency of the United States in violation of the highly serious "natural born citizen" clause(s) of the U.S. Constitution, which it VERY MUCH appears that he IS, then we are all obligated to take this issue seriously and to seek to go after him concerning it; unless, of course, we have little or not loyalty to the Constitution, to this republic, and to at least trying to save it, and are thus traitors.
"TommyB", you have admitted that you have no loyalty to the U.S. and to its Supreme Law of the Land, its Constitution; and have therefore alluded to believing in and being in favor of doing away with national sovereighty and independence, and bringing the U.S. under the completely evil, enslaving, corporate-fascist "New World Order (NWO)" and one-world government; thus, you are a true enemy of this country, of myself, and of ALL True Americans; as are all so-called "Americans" who take a similar position to what you do, making all of you very much guilty of treason, and making all of you extreme traitors.
But, fortunately for all of your Godless, traitorous kind, True American Patriots like myself do not believe in the death penalty, or "capital punishment"; otherwise, in some circles of this country, what you have admitted to is a capital offense; and what you have admitted to being guilty of makes you, and all those like you, complicit in the NWO's completely treasonous plot to overthrow this country and to enslave the entire world, therefore an extreme threat to the liberties and sovereignty of this country and all Americans, and will make all of you responsible for our descent into absolute insanity. In other words, all of your ilk will help bring about a level of hell on earth that has never before been seen or suffered in the entire history of this planet.
Wherefore, to ALL of you traitors to God, to this country, and to the whole world...

Man, are you and those like you so full of contradictions; which, of course, you then claim I am supposedly "guilty of". Whether one directly or indirectly supports the NWO, or whether they knowingly or unknowingly support it, makes no difference.
You claim you're against it, and by allusion that "TommyB" is against it, but you support the very globalization and destruction of national sovereignty in violation of the U.S. Constitution, and so does "TommyB", that the NWO is after.
Please make true sense, instead of defending global-fascist madness and contradicting yourself(ves) in the process, and then fraudulently "painting" me as "guilty" of things I am NOT guilty of, many if not most of which are the very things you(r kind) are guilty of!

Man, I am so sick of people
Wed, 02/03/2010 - 08:00 — Anonymous (not verified)Man, I am so sick of people like S. Wolf Britain spamming otherwise good websites with their conspiracy babble instead of discussing the actual article.
Back on topic:
The "discussion" between Obama and the Republicans was amazing - Obama definitely schooled them. It was obvious that he often even knew more about their proposals than they did and it is hilarious that Fox News cut away from the live broadcast.... I guess seeing an Obama unfiltered by talking head news-hacks is just too much for Fox News viewers.
Personally, I love seeing Obama unfiltered - it definitely lays to rest all the myth about him supposedly only being good when he uses a teleprompter. And what an amazing difference to our previous president!
S. Wolf Britain: III.

Wed, 02/03/2010 - 15:29 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)First of all, this is one of the few websites that I comment on; in fact, this is the only one at the present time; so I don't spam.
Secondly, the truth is "conspiracy fact", not "conspiracy babble"; but, obviously, you can't handle the truth.
Thirdly, I am being on-topic discussing the issue of "O-bomb-a-few-hundred-thousand-people-to-death's" eligibility to be president (or to not be), since Will Pitt brought the issue up himself in this very article / thread.
So, Man, am I sick of people like cowardly, anti-Constitutional anonymous commenters who would take away some people's freedom of speech, but also believe that slandering those who's free speech they would like to see taken away and making ad hominem attacks against them is supposedly "okay".
Therefore, all of you unpatriotic civil law and Constitution violators please stop your ad-hominem-attack and slander babble, as well as your blind praise of "O-bomb-a".
Btw, in response to previous allusions thereto, and before someone again alludes to it, I have a rhetorical question: So I should be in unity with traitors? God forbid! I will NEVER align myself with traitors, especially admitted ones!
Man, it is very sad and unfortunate how many so-called "Americans" are not even very familiar, if at all familiar, with the U.S. Constitution, and don't have much if any respect for it and/or the rights of ALL Americans and other human beings.
Thus, what will "you" seek to have my Constitutional rights violated for, and slander and/or attack me for, next?
Wow. I feel ridiculous in
Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:10 — TommyB (not verified)Wow. I feel ridiculous in indulging Mr. Wolf again cuz I think he might be putting us on, pulling our legs so to speak....hehe...Maybe its really just mr. rivers pitt or someone having fun seeing how far we can ramble off topic to substantiate how "well-trained in the art of short term memory" we are. I know I'm driving that quote into the ground, it just rings so true to me.
Any continuation of this argument after my last comment--, of which Wolf displays an amazing lack of reading comprehension(or maybe he just didn't read entire sections after seeing a blasphemy like I have no patriotism, i don't believe in it) as well as strong powers of cognitive dissonance,-- is admittedly an immature exercise in ego...but he started it! (that was a joke, no one take it too seriously) I just find it really hard to believe someone with such exquisite grammar and technical writing ability could have such questionable critical thinking/comprehension skills.
I'll skip the political stuff because Wolf really pitched a soft ball since last time that explains why his thought process is the way it is. The politically related cognitive dissonance in your comments, and the resulting comments from some of us forced the surfacing in your post (3:23) of history's greatest source of neuroses. Divisive contrived politics, patriotism, the love of money, etc....they all pale in the face of religion-the original annihilator of reason, inquiry, and critical thinking.
Help me out Wolf cuz I never get this one right.
Lets just take the first one,---"It is written, thus says the Lord [God in Jesus the Christ, the Word(s) of God, and the Maker / Creator of all things except evil]...":
My bible trivia is bad, as you may have already deduced, but living in the bible belt I've heard this story a few times. Wasn't Satan, the cause of all misery, injustice, horror, and evil itself, a creation of God? According to the Holy Book, wasn't Satan originally one of God's angels? I believe his name was Lucifer, and he and God had a bit of a falling out...some things were said, God got mad, and Satan wasn't allowed in the nice part of the Holy Kingdom anymore and had to move all his stuff into the basement, from where he plots his revenge. Put simply, if God didn't create some evil to make our lives miserable part of the time, how would we know what happiness feels like?
Of course there's no need for some convenient, expedient, explanation in case people start to notice.(well you see, god gave Satan free will, and he decided to rebel against God..-didn't he see that comming? well.. you see) Because there is no inconsistency. That would imply a flaw or two. Its the freakin' word of GOD mind you! Infallible. Case closed. Even if there was a flaw, you couldnt use a convenient fallacious explanation... cuz that will create another for something else, and another, and another...that would create all kinds of divisions and sects. He's a great writer-never ambiguous, well maybe once or twice.
But who cares? The globe is slowly coming under some form of a new world order, which means the anticrist is coming back, thus the rapture too. Right? And Mr. Wolf, if I understand correctly, you're already saved! So why all the name calling and anger, and fuss? If this is indeed what you are so informed about, and seeing as its his divine plan anyway so you cant do anything about it, relax....dont worry about what guys like me say cuz I have to admit, you win...I got nothin' on that. I cant touch it, no one can, you're right.
.
hmmm...I feel like there's something I've forgotten...
Oh yeah, seriously exciting news here in this article! This is the Obama we thought we were electing! I hope you are right Mr. Pitt, and it turns into more than just words. If its going to happen, we need, and Obama needs massive grassroots support from all of us. No more mass apathy.Nothings going to change when so many are guilty of hoping someone else will fix it. Any suggestions people? What can we do, more than just calling or writing your Congressman? You know what wont help, obsessing over trivial little technicalities and arguing them to death like easily distracted children until it dead-ends into something that had nothing to do with the topi....mmmm..I seeeee. Touchez, short term-memory This is going to be difficult.

Wed, 02/03/2010 - 16:39 — liberal Ray (not verified)Well said Tommy B. and Donna J.! Facts are facts; and if we each try to have a different set of the same facts - that does not work well in a democratic republic with free speech like the USA. Thanku 2 u both!!!
P.S., I suppose one might
Wed, 02/03/2010 - 17:34 — TommyB (not verified)P.S.,
I suppose one might play the I didn't mean it literally card in reference to that biblical stuff. Fine. I really dont care.
Im just trying to illustrate how a religious (euphemism for superstition) mentality, especially when imposed on children from a very early age, often severely hampers the kids ability to think critically. Faith, as I understand it, is an unwavering, unquestioning belief in something that can not be proved to exist using data and observations from the surrounding observable world. If the foundation of your world exists in these sorts of parameters, you're going to be much more susceptible to suggestion, conspiracies, and worst of all absolutes and the only I really understand sort of righteousness that often accompanies it.
He acts like the constitution is some perfect thing mandating reverence down to the last detail no matter what, Its the supreme law of the land,, while fleetingly acknowledging it has had some very serious flaws in the past, but....its all good now we fixed it.
I misspoke earlier, I meant to say all that appears certain about the constitution is that it was deliberately made to be an emergent concept, so that it could change over time as society and its values did to reflect that, thus all the subsequent changes.
so Wolf, wher are you getting all this stuff? who are you referring too? what sources are you talking about? Im just curious now, and I love watching a good conspiracy flic! they're so entertaining, and the formula is always the same....take something generally true and worthy of consideration/investigation, and then just running with it!
May I just ask, how did this
Wed, 02/03/2010 - 21:55 — Anonymous (not verified)May I just ask, how did this whole debate of the current president's citizenship even start to begin with? Putting aside arguments of constitutionality, I honestly have to say that I think if he were caucasian, even a caucasian of mixed heritage who's father may have been an illegal immigrant-no one would be demanding to see a birth certificate. I do not think that everyone who thinks he is not a citizen is a racist at heart. But I do think the whole issue reflects a racially charged knee-jerk reaction to the nation's first African American president. It is sad, but was also inevitable.
"...(H)ow did this whole
Thu, 02/04/2010 - 01:38 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)"...(H)ow did this whole debate of the current president's citizenship even start to begin with?..." Duh! Because there is a very serious Constitutional question of his eligibility under Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution due to the great deal of evidence, and the covering up of what could resolve the entire issue, to the tune of Obama spending almost two million dollars to cover it up, that Obama was not born a "natural(ly) born citizen" of the United States as the Constitutional requires!
In my case, it has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Obama's being black. I am entirely anti-racism, and have been all of my life. I am almost 54 years old now (as of 15 April), and I have seen through racism, hatred and aggressive warfare since I was a child, before I even consciously and/or fully understood why.
The vast majority of Americans are racist, not just the "right-wing"; and racism is still very much alive with most people in this country today; so it is not surprising that there would be a great deal of, not just "right-wing", racist ambivalence against our first black President.
But the eligibility question, though the right-wing may be using it for a racist purpose, is NOT a racial issue, but of a nationality, citizenship and loyalty issue. It questions, based on his very likely not having been born an American on U.S. soil, which the Constitution REQUIRES in order to be President, whether his loyalty is fully to the Constitutional republic of the United States, or to some other foreign power(s). And, according to complete accordance with the Constitution, this issue MUST be judicially, and/or through impeachment proceedings, thoroughly resolved.
If you read all of the comments, especially mine, you would already have the answers to your questions; or, novel idea, you could then go and research it for yourself to find out if I know what I'm talking about.
On "TommyB", I will no longer debate your worse and worse circular reasoning, and I won't continue to attempt to reason with those who cannot be reasoned with because they are too deceived and evil. You very likely wouldn't listen to my responses anyway, no matter how well I answered your questions, and no matter how well I proved where you're wrong.
I read ALL of every last detail of your comments, and didn't ignore ANY of it, although I have kept some my response(s) to myself; but, evidently, what you think it should be conveying to me, it does not convey to me because you did not make very clear what you really wanted to convey, and/or your "logic" is such that I am not going to "get" your "line of reasoning" because the "logic" you believe you're conveying to me is not truly conveying that "logic", or it doesn't make sense as you mean it to mean, unless I thought illogically just like you do, and I believed that illogic was "logic" or "logical".
Really, though, most of what you convey is illogical rationalizations for your viewpoint, that most of you anti-religious, Godless people just love, no matter how much you are "simply" parroting the words and views of others' of your kind, and no matter how much you cannot truly prove your position(s) because you have no God-given logical position from which to support your anti-religiousness.
You simply just use the standard copouts, not understanding that the majority of professed-"Christianity" is nothing but a counterfeit of True Christianity, nor even understanding what I mean by saying that and how it relates to the first part of this sentence. And I could explain it 'til I'm blue in the face; but, very likely, you still wouldn't get it.
I "stooped" to quoting the Bible, what you believe to be one of the, if not THE, biggest fantasy(ies); so, as far as you and all of your Godless, anti-religious ilk are concerned, I'm "crazy", end of story. Naturally. And, if Jesus the Christ were walking the earth today, you would believe Him to be "insane", and you and/or much of your kind would crucify Him again in one way or another, a completely innocent man/God, much like those who crucified Him 2,000 years ago did.
Naturally, too, your fellow anti-religious, Godless ilk are going to flock to your side and defend your Godless, anti-religious viewpoints, and wrongly write me off as a "kook", just as most people wrongly wrote-off Jesus the Christ. Believe what you will about me. It is only "skin off your bones" in the end, not mine. May God help you and much of your God-hating kind.
Well this has certainly been
Thu, 02/04/2010 - 09:00 — droslovinia (not verified)Well this has certainly been entertaining. I loved the article, and look forward to watching the video. So in the meantime, while we're all being entertained by the big bad "wolf" and his detractors, why did none of you notice that he's so insistent on "proof" from you, yet he makes a sweeping assertion that there is abundant evidence that Obama was born in Kenya, yet has provided not one hint of a shred of any evidence that this is so? I'm not even saying "credible" evidence, since that would be raising the bar too high for him - just "evidence."
I mean, if you're going to have fun debating the guy, you should at least ask him to hold himself to the same standards that he purports to hold you to. After that, you can ask him questions like why, if the Constitution is suddenly "perfected," do we still need a Supreme Court" I know that his revisionist view of history, law, and Christian scriptures is entertaining, but surely you can take this to another level if you work at it. Oh, and "wolf," for the record, I think you're a religious "kook," as you say, and I have a seminary Ph.D. with over 20 years service as a Christian minister. Please stop calling the kettle "black."
Droslovinia, you hit it
Thu, 02/04/2010 - 12:25 — TommyB (not verified)Droslovinia, you hit it right on the nose, though I did try to ask for some sort of proof, at least in my last statement, but for reasons I attempted to convey "proof" doesn't really fit into the minds of people like this guy. No, rather they ignore anything that they dont like or is inconvenient to the way they want to personally interpret the narrative of our world.
And certainly, you're right I was being rather flippant in part of my assessments of his "revisionist view of history, law, and Christian scripture" as you put it, really just the religion part, I still strongly believe that religion more often than not has a very deleterious effect on peoples ability to think critically, maybe not for a seminary Ph.D... and its certainly not alone, just look at the kind of myopia patriotic fervor can induce to name one.
Regardless, there is a lot of other really interesting stuff to move onto on Truthout alone instead of beating this dead horse that has little to do with this article and interesting video. I really hope Obama is serious. His breakdown of the Indiana congressmans math is an encouraging start. Lets hold him to it and help him keep it up people!
It is NOT my responsibility,
Thu, 02/04/2010 - 13:17 — S. Wolf Britain (not verified)It is NOT my responsibility, especially in comments, to provide you with all of the proof. It is YOUR responsibility to go check out my claims and read the "birthers" side of the story with a truly open mind. I've said or alluded to that several times now, but you just toss aside those suggestions because it's not convenient to your close-mindedness, avoidance and denial of truth, and intellectual laziness, not to mention your continual propagation of your anti-religiousness and Godlessness seeking to deceive people with it and convince them of it.
Have you even gone and read Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution? No, I'll bet not. Because it's part of some supposedly "myopic" document, and supposedly nothing but a symbol, of false, blind patriotism. But, with that attitude this country would never have come to exist and you probably wouldn't be here right now. Man, I'm so tired of you Godless liberals, and of your "religious" supporters like ministers who have been completely brainwashed by counterfeit "Christianity" and are therefore just as Godless and lost as the non-religious Godless!
I've studied God's Word(s) in-depth for thirty years, therefore I in a sense have the equivalent of several theological degrees, at least in principal, but thank God I didn't go to some seminary to be brainwashed with nothing but a counterfeit version of Christianity!
I telephoned an old minister-"friend" of mine that I've known for almost thirty years several weeks ago; and, because he evidently didn't want to talk with me, instead of being honest as a True Christian would have been and simply telling me that, he lied and told me he'd call me back in five minutes, but to this day he has NEVER called me back, though I've emailed him and left him a couple of phone messages since. He won't email me back either.
You "ministers" are all a bunch of hypocrites and false prophets, further deceiving people into believing in counterfeit "Christianity" and leading them to lose their souls for eternity; and leading people like "TommyB" to reject Jesus the Christ because of your hypocrisy.
Revelation 21:7-8 and 22:14-15 make it very clear that NO LIARS ARE GOING TO GET INTO HEAVEN, but all of you counterfeit-"Christians" are liars who misinterpret Scriptures, deceive people into believing these lying misinterpretations, and are blind "leaders" leading other blind people to their destruction. You make God and people like myself heartsick, for you probably will never fully wake up and TRULY get right with God before it's very soon too late, if it isn't already too late for you.
You are grieving away the Holy Spirit, which is the true meaning of "the unpardonable sin", and you don't even know it!
hey s. wolf...if you're such
Thu, 02/04/2010 - 14:33 — Anonymous (not verified)hey s. wolf...if you're such a believer...why do you rant on about other's supposed 'lost souls'...i would say that any true christian would learn to trust in the God they say is so all powerful, all knowing, all loving and be humble...be kind...who are you to judge what His word is toward others or what His plan is for anyone else besides yourself?...or even for yourself for that matter? sounds to me like not only is your faith lacking, but you presume to know what many would say only god can know...to have to go on and on about others not making it into heaven to me shows 'the splinter in your own eye'...after all: 'he without sin, cast the first stone...' you going to tell me your sinless too?

I hope I didn't know you when I lived in California; but chances are, thank God, I didn't know you, because of the millions of people who resides there; and, even though it is a small world, again thank God, it's probably not that small.
