Guns are illegal in Mexico. Didn't seem to help much there... New York City as well & that sure brought the murder rate down.. IMO In this government built on checks & balances the right of the people to keep & bear arms is less for hunting, sport or self-protection but meant to be the ultimate check on the govnt's monopoly on the us...e of organized violence. Sovereignty, in this country (in theory) rests with the people but how much sovereignty can there be if the people lose the means to evict a usurper from the White House? How else can self-crowned kings & emperors be removed? The powerful already openly thumb their noses at the weak. In a democracy the govn't fears the people & in a totalitarian state the people fear the government. In Switzerland every male citizen is in the army reserves AND keeps his weapon w/ 100 rounds of ammunition at home. To my knowledge there has NEVER been a murder committed with an issued weapon. Keep the guns in the closets lest the government become abusive with its prerogatives & drunk with its power.
